I went to order an Calvary Arms C8 for my new BCM middy and when I saw the $10.00 shipping cost, I couldn’t justify it. I figured I’d use this until the Magpul comes out in July…so about $80 in stuff I don’t really want.
I’d probably go with an Omega 9" if money wasn’t an object.
This is my first AR…I need to keep it simple. I found a Midwest Industries MI#18 Mid Length, on the BCM site for $148.50. No gunsmithing required.
Yep, I’d like to free float it, but again need to keep it simple and I’m on a tight budget…I’m choking on the $148.50 for the MI #18.
The best I’ve been able to find on an Omega 9" is around $270 or so.
If you are going to keep the FSB and want a drop in Mid-length Drop In Free Float HG. I’d only suggest the Daneil Defense Omega 9.0.
If funds are tight now, just use std. handguards till you have enough for what you want. Anything “cheaper” will still cost you over half of the cost of a DD Omega 9.0.
I almost bought the DDM4 on GB last night for $1182.00 everything included. I just couldn’t get into that long, long rail, apparently I’m not alone, I see that exactly a year ago this Carbine was everyone’s darling and it was going in the $1600+ neighborhood, but then many started complaining about the DD12 rail, so they came out with the DDM4v2…seems like love/hate on that 12" rail.
I went with the MI # 18 for about $154 shipped. It looks similar to the Troy drop in for about the same coin…Thanks for the tip…
After I ordered it and thought about it, I may wind up with the Calvary Arms after all, since I shoot off sticks quite a bit, the rounded bottom is going to fit my “sticks” better. If I don’t like the MI, I’m sure I can find a use for it or sell it. I don’t know what the hell I need a rail for…white light and possibly a harris bi-pod.
Then again with the AR platform I’m going to be “modifying” my shooting style…so for now I’m going with it and see how this plays out.
Can you narrow things down a little ? What are your planned uses for the carbine? Make that choice and then go from there. You mention simplicity and budget as factors .
Some other considerations could include , wieght , free-float , easy installation , small diameter, etc , etc?
What’s on my middy ( or my wife’s middy ) might not fit your needs or your budget.
FWIW.
ETA:Might not hurt to take a look at the tactical yellow visor rail info.
well I was mistaken about this model being a free float. I don’t have any experience with this rail so I’ll retract my statement about the Troy vs MI. sorry for the confusion…
My main consideration was ease of installation, low cost and free float, which doesn’t seem to go together. I realize the DD Omega would have been the best choice but I blew the Carbine budget…
I was notified today that the MI shipped so I’ll give it a try for now.
Thanks for the input guy’s.
Deputy that’s some nice looking gear! What kind of collapsible stocks are those?
