Best FSP rail for my colt?

Let me start off by saying that I am new to this site and relatively new to AR-15’s. I recently bought a Colt M4 6920 With all the magpul MOE goodies and would like get her “tricked” out.

I am in the market for a Handguard/Quad rail that has the front sight post cut out. Ive been looking at the DD omega 12.0 carbine or perhaps the Troy Charlie rail, looking for something not to heavy. I originally wanted to throw a new gas block on my 6920 and throw a continuous rail on her but was advised against it thus the search for a FSP rail. This is my first AR-15 and any advice would be greatly appreciated. The Aimpoint T1 is inbound and a Rail and a light system are the final steps into getting this rifle to its final state (besides perhaps a trigger system and a different stock down the road). Thanks again for taking the time to read this.

I had a Centurion C4 Cutout Rail for a while and liked it.

What do you have now?

I started with an FSP rail on my Colt 6920 but ended up removing my front sight after adding an optic so I could run flip up irons. I’m running a Daniel Defense RIS II now.

See thats what i would like to do. But some buddies at the gun shop i live near advised against it because “you shouldn’t mess with factory”. I bought the T1 with the LT660 larue mount to avoid the FSP from getting in the way of the sight. What gas block did you you? Any advice as to where i can purchase a good rail on line and not get charged out the ass?

I just removed my front sight and used a dremel to grind it down to a low profile gas block. It’s much more reliable compared to buying after market gas blocks that don’t use taper pins. I did this on my very first AR so it’s not that difficult to do.

Being your first AR, I’d recommend shooting a few thousand rounds in original configuration to get a feel for what you really want/need before guessing which rail, trigger, etc you can’t wait to throw money at. Maybe buy another upper with the long rail of your choice to experiment with rails before chopping your FSB up. Maybe sell your upper and buy one with the rail you want. Do some serious shooting before going accessory crazy. On that note I’m headed out to burn up some 9mm & .223 through my FSB Colt as we speak. Good luck and enjoy the journey OP!

I’ve already shot 900+ rounds through her and I can tell that i would be more comfortable having my forward grip extended a bit further out (ive got some long arms). So that’s why I’m interested in having a longer rail. Chopping the front sight has been an option but having that FSP always there and being less likely to lose zero if dropped ect. has a bit of appeal to me. I should have my Aimpoint by thursday and i will see how much of an impact the FSP has on my sight picture.

RIS II FSP would be my first choice followed very closely by the Centurion. Both are great. Centurion can be installed without removing the barrel nut, FSP, etc. DD RIS II will require removal of both, but I prefer the shorter RIS II profile.

DD AR15 Lite Rail 12.0 FSP. IMHO, one of the top rails on the market.

I would say DD or Centurion. I have an older Troy on one of my rifles, but I feel like it is too heavy.

The DD rails (They make a few different ones in FSP guise) come in different profiles and provide a very different feel than a Centurion - which is a great rail. The OmegaX offers a more slim profile in width, and I like that. The Centurion has a super strong lockup system, and has a round profile. I’d like to see Centurion CMR with FSP cutout. This would offer a great option for FSP fans AND provide a LOWER profile so that 12 o’clock light mounting would not affect sight picture with the FSP at all. If they made it, I’d get one.

That Centurion FSP Cutout Rail sounds interesting, can you post a link to the exact part? I might drop some coin for one, thanks.

Do be aware that you’ll need to cut off the delta ring assembly…not a big deal.

Thanks for the link! I was thinking of switching back and forth with the Kac M4 RAS I am running now. The delta ring is a deal breaker. I’ll probably pick up another upper to modify.

Daniel defense 12.0 fsp lite rail.

I have had all of the Daniel Defense FSP offerings at one time or another and my personal favorite is the DDM4. The RIS II and original M4 rail would come in second.

There is another way to do it with the proper tools. Remove the barrel, and then use slip ring pliers to remove the spring, delta ring and c-clip. Then re-install the barrel.

The instructions we did for installation were designed for those who do not have barrel wrenches, vise blocks, etc… and were concerned they couldn’t do it. The other method simply requires cutting the stuff away carefully with a Dremel.

Thanks for the info Gunz. That will allow me to go back to stock configuration if needed, I like that idea.

Forget the rails and systems that require you to modify, ‘bubba’ or ‘gunsmith’ your weapon when there’re great options that do not require it.

I have a CASV-S on a rifle and love it.

Absolutely ZERO modification other than removing standard handguards.
