I’m strictly a form-follows-function type. I have a design for a desk I’ll get around to building one of these days.
My favorite desk I ever had at work was probably 20 years old. Metal base, legs, drawers, etc. with a shitty laminated particle board top. But the top was big enough to hold a full-size set of plans (“blueprints”) which was a great thing to have on the jobsite.
I also think that what kind of desk you’re going to use depends on if it’s going to face a wall or face out into the room. That toy desk above would be better for a setup facing out into a room.
My favorite desk is one I didnt keep from college. I used 2 filing cabinets on each side and built a frame from bosch-rexroth aluminum framing to support a 3x8 sheet of particle board and then poured epoxy over the particle board.

lol interesting concept for a desk. Instead of a static display, put a durable cover over a large display/lcd styel and then you could change it. best desk i’ve ever seen or used, belonged to an old supervisor. Not quite as “deep” as the old drafting tables, but set at an incline, probably 6 feet long then into a corner section with another 3 feet. It was tall, so that you were comfortable working at it while standing. His “chairs” were the high backed stools from an old pool hall. All in all, very classy and functional.
Only if Princess Lea comes chained to it in “the outfit” and her hair in the cinamin buns.

And FWIW my real desk is a big honkin’ hardwood battleship anchor, I just thought the Star Wars one was cool, practical no.
The Han Solo desk is pretty cool but doesn’t look real functional.
I had a couple Steelcase desks years ago, they were rock solid. One I used as a desk, the other was my workbench. When I moved I left them behind but wish I had brought the one I used as a desk.
They felt like they weighed 250lbs. and I always thought they would make a good reloading bench.
Currently I work on a plain desk with a formica top but I like the look and feel of real wood. Something heavy in Oak would be nice.

Looks to me like something that’ll make me turn green, become insanely muscular, and lose my mind, but only when I’m hungry… um… angry.
