Best bang for the buck ar uppers

OP, based soley on that, I’d jump all over this Spike’s Tac M4 LE upper deal right now. You cannot beat this anywhere for a $475 pricetag.

Here’s the info from Tom at Spike’s:

We have been selling these uppers/rifles to LE for some time now and seen Excellent results.

We finally decided to offer them to our retail customers at a great price.

For a Limited time we are offering a $50 off coupon code to purchase, the code is M4LEUP

That means the complete upper with BCG, Charging handle, and ST-T2 buffer will be $475!

Don’t let the price fool you, these are top Quality and use the same exact components (except the barrel) as our CHF uppers.

noooo… the BCG is a very important part. it takes the vast majority of the abuse of firing, it needs to be quality. the bolt is the most important part- carriers are generally pretty run of the mill, but why bother paying shipping twice? just get a good group from Colt, BCM, LMT, CMT if it’s MP, or daniel defense.

I agree 100%! Don’t cheap out on your BCG! This is the one major component next to the barrel you do NOT want to go cheap on. The errornet is full of post after post about someone buying a commercial rifle and then asking what they need to do to it to make it, “as good as a Colt” and the response is always start with a better BCG. Staking of the gas key, MPI bolt, improved extractor spring and insert and so on is what you want in a quality BCG. As mentioned the BCG takes a beating and you want parts that will hold up to that abuse.

I would give up chrome lined barrel in favor of a quality BCG from any of the above listed companies before I saved $50 on a BCG.

There are many great vendors and site sponsors that carry these and they are all good outfits. BCM, Rainier Arms, Talon Arms and Global Tactical and so on can help you with getting what you need.

Just my two cents.

as would i. so long as your chamber is in-spec and your gas port is correctly sized, the barrel will not effect reliability. the BCG absolutely will.

Check the For Sale ads on this site. You should be able to find a gently used upper that meets your needs/budget

Hey, thanks for straitening that out I was looking at the wrong unit. Are these the same uppers as the ones at Bravo company with the bolt carriers? If they are it’s quite the deal. This is the upper I was looking at. http://weaponparts.storesecured.com/items/ar-15-complete-uppers/ar-15-16-m4-flat-top-complete-upper-223-5-56-chrome-moly-del-ton-m4-chrom-moly-c

What do you look for in a high quality BCG? This is my first AR and and I do have to say I love it. So far I have owned a MAK 90 and a Chekhovian AK but the AR seems to be Superior so far.

buy that or an lmt. there is a list on that link of important features. both have great qc, bcm is probably a little better.

the name… this is one of those areas where the variables are known and either a manufacturer keeps them to a minimum or they don’t.

the manfers i listed above all produce BCGs to the TDP standard, which is the most tested standard we currently possess by multiples of hundreds of thousands: 158 carpenter steel, high-pressure tested, magnetic particle inspected, shot-peened, and heat-treated, to list a few important ones. plus these guys properly install their carrier gas keys, ensuring they dont come loose and fuck your day up.

there might be better ways of doing it, but none backed with nearly the verifiable information at this point.

take a look at the new upper spike’s has for $475, with bcg. this looks really, really good on paper. i have a spike’s melonited upper with the D.D hfb,i love that thing. can;t say enough good things about it.

Thanks for the link Dozer… It,s been very Helpful

Another vote for BCM. Check out USMC03’s website for more info.
