I know this question has been asked a million times. But humor me a little [emoji16] I have three Troy folding battle sights. One is Spikes Tactical branded with the old mounting design. The other two are BCM branded with new mounting design. They all mount great and I haven’t had any problems, but I know people have been having problems and complaining about the new Troy mounting design. I wasn’t even aware of the change in design till this week. I was planning on going with Troys for my current build. I prefer the look of the Troy’s. But I’m also a form follows function guy with my guns. Any opinions are welcomed!
I’m a fan of the Magpul buis, just zero’d two rifles with them easily. They are easy to install, flip up and down and tough as hell. Also a fan of my Noveske marked troys.
Been wanting to try the KAC micros as their owners always seem to great things to say.
The Troys I had were good, but I prefer Magpul. Their Pros are very minimalist and sleek, while the regular MBUS are a very good value and are spring loaded for easy activation (a feature I like quite a bit). I really don’t understand why people throw $200 for some of the other brands out there.
I’ve tried Troy’s (not sure what mounting method as I have only tried one set), Magpul BUIS and Pro’s, KAC micro front w/ micro 300 and a 600 rear. So far the sweet spot for me is the KAC Micro front and 300m micro rear. I am using the 300m rear and a Magpul Pro front on my 18" gun and honestly I’m just not changing them because the odds of that gun ever using irons is somewhere around 1 and probably never. For that I don’t feel it’s worth buying a KAC front.
I wasn’t fond of the Troy’s locking in the up position. They did their job though. Can’t say they didn’t, but I think my light or something at the time made hitting the button a pita.
For flip-ups, I have KAC Micros on all my rifles, except my 6933 that I just sighted in. The 6933 came with MBUS rears and I had to crank the FSB all the way up to zero. That being said, I’ll be ditching the MBUS rears.
I’ve been looking at the KAC micro 300m, Magpul MBUS Pro, Diamond Head, or another set of Troy’s. I was looking at the Spikes Tactical sights but I don’t like how the peep aperture is removable. Does anyone have experience with Diamond Head? And how large is the KAC 300m rear aperture compared to the Troy?
I’ve had and used Magpul MBUS Gen2’s (polymer flip-ups), Troy Folding BackUp Sights (both the Standard ones and the Offset ones) and Magpul MBUS Pro Offsets.
In my humble opinion, the Magpul MBUS Pro sights are the best. They are sleeker than the rest and the easiest to make adjustments to.
There’s been too much time pass between using the two sights to really do a comparison, for me. The 300m rear sight has the small aperture and you can pop a piece out and it becomes a wider aperture. Keep in mind if you want to play with it then you may want to order replacements. I mangled mine up taking it out. some patience probably solves that problem though.
I think the MBUS Pro are the best and they are also a great value. They are constructed of steel with nitrocarburization treatment, very sturdy and instead of locking open they have a detent open to help absorb impact. The front and rear are toolless adjustable with stiff detents. The front has the most efficient size I have seen, very short when folded but standard height erected. The rear has same plane dual flip down apertures and is streamlined to be thin enough to not interfer with the charging handle. Now the MBUS Pro LR rear has adjustable elevation like the KAC micro 600 but unlike the KAC it has the same single plane dual flip down apertures as the regular Pro rear. The only thing I like better about the KAC micros is the thinness of the front sight post, especially for long range use obscuring less of the target. Also the drum elevation adjustment of the KAC micro 600 is more tactile intuitive being pinched and twisted between you thumb, index finger, and middle finger over the vertical wheel of the Pro LR but this is a small benefit I would happily give up for the same plane dual flip down apertures.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback! It’s given me a lot to look into and consider. I was really leaning toward a set of KAC’s. But everyone seems to love their magpul’s. They’re much better priced too. World of choices here.
