Best all-around muzzle device?

Piggy-backing on the original question: does the general consensus change if the rifle is an SBR? Specifically, I’d like to know how the most popular choices compare with the Levang linear comp and similar devices for managing muzzle blast.

Bunch of some real informative threads lately.

If you can disclose such information, which units and in what capacity is the BC being fielded?

I was going to ask about the Levang Linear Compensator. It seems to have good reviews, and it looks like it would direct the blast forward.

One other question…what’s the best overall muzzle device for mounting a suppressor? A Smith Vortex with a Gemtech Halo?

I have mounted Surefire FH556-212A flash hiders on all my uppers so far, as I was planning on ordering a SF Mini Supressor.

It depends on your definition of “all around”.

My considerations (may or may not be anyone else’s), in no particular order:
Cost
Flash
Muzzle Rise
Noise/Concussion
Side/Bottom Blast
Suppressor Compatability
Length

I liked the recoil characteristics of the FSC5.56, but the side blast made it sub-optimal for some use.

The BC sounds good, but I would like it to be compatible with suppressors.

The Triple Tap is a good compromise, but the cost is prohibitive, and only slightly more available than copies of Prez Obama’s birth cert.

The A2 comp isn’t outstanding in any category, but does a mediocre job at low cost.

Interesting night shoot video:

It’s hard to compete with the Smith Vortex or AAC Blackout at night.

I have also tried a variety of comps and brakes and with the exception of my KX-3 ( which is permanently attached.) I have replaced all my devices with Battle Comp 1.0 and 1.5’s. I have yet to find a better brake for control and follow up shots. Better than all the rest IMHO.

Cost: $129

Muzzle rise: Good
Noise/concussion: ?
Side/Bottom Blast: Good.

Smith Vortex:
Cost: $52.99
Flash: Excellent
Muzzle rise: ?
Noise/concussion: ?
Side/bottom blast: ?
Suppressor compatibility: Yes, Gemtech Halo.
Length: 2.31"

Battle Comp 1.0
Cost: $149
Flash: Fair
Muzzle rise: Excellent
Noise/concussion: Excellent
Side/bottom blast: Excellent
Suppressor compatibility: No.
Length: 1.75"

AAC Blackout 18T:

Please update if you have better information…

I vote BC. After shooting an a2 for a good while, switching over to the BC was a pretty significant upgrade. Yes, its a little expensive, but its a good piece of gear

A2, Battle comp, YHM Phantom.

The only drawback to the Battle Comp is that it’s hard to clear if it gets clogged with mud.

BattleComp Version 2.0 is compatible with any suppressor that fits the standard A2 FH.

I don’t have any experience with the BattleComp but have shot others. I recommend the Rainier Arms XTC. For the money it is a great buy and is along the same lines performance wise as the PWS FS556.

Here’s my take

I have the Rainier XTC on an 18" Long Range / 3-Gun rifle and like it a lot.

I have the BC 1.0 on the 16" HD gun and also like it a lot.

Apprx 1k rounds on each.

I’ve been wondering about that. Most other devices you can probably scrape mud out with a stick or pocket knife. With the BC, it seems like you basically need running water to clean mud out from inside the cage. Is that right?

PWS does make specific mounts for different suppressors. I own one for the YHM stainless phantom and I know when I ordered it I saw mounts for other cans. I dont know if the positivies of the PWS offset the negatives of the YHM can or not but it is an option.

How would the AAC comp or Brakeout compare to the BC?

I run a pinned Vortex on my carbine and it does a really good job of flash suppression.

does the battle comp have a lot of side pressure?

I had a compensated barrel on my AR but changed out for a regular birdcage because when shooting low ground stuff I’d dig a 3 inch hole into the ground also the noise was unbearable for teammates. Id like to try one of it wasn’t noticeably louder and didn’t relieve a lot of gas to the side.

BattleComp for recoil, Vortex for flash…IF you can put up with that annoying “ping”.

Exactly. The OP described the A2 perfectly in his original post.

Not for me. My home Defense gun is an 11.5" Colt commando upper with an A2.
