No experience with those two. But I would look into the Nordic Components mag extension. It is a three part design (tube, tube cap, tube nut) so if you ever want to add or subtract length all you have to do is buy another sized tube. Its also very well built and light weight.
It does not appear as though the Remington Factory +2 extension is on their online shop.
Any third party vendors you guys know of which might have this in stock ?
Also the Nordic Components magazine extension does not come with a clamp and is very similar to the Vang Comp and Wilson Combat offerings.
Between the three third party tubes from what I have read the Vang Comp and Wilson Combat +2 extensions are most popular. I personally am leaning more towards the Vang Comp but if I can find a Remington Factory +2 for the 870 with the clamp I’ll be all over that.
Nordic Comp is out of most of their stuff, they’re not replying to any communication, and while their product is top notch, I was ticked because my +2 benelli extension would only occasionally allow me to actually load +2 without buying the accessory tip which was a bit longer, which wouldn’t have been a problem had they actually answered their emails/phones/etc.
All the vendors were perpetually back-ordered.
Vang Comp is the last word in Remington stuff. Get his extension, and while you’re at it send off your barrel for his magic treatment.
I have never ordered anything from their online shop. When I have purchased parts I have always ordered off their parts list. Try calling thier customer support line or send them and email.
og - that’s the same model 870P I’ve had for a few years;nice shotgun. I added the parkerized 2-shot extension from Remington, part #19420 I think. You can try calling Remington service direct or backorder from Midway or Brownells. Just be sure to verify that the barrel clamp with the kit is the “X” marked clamp.
I have no experience with the other mag extensions but I would bet they are quality pieces and would serve you well also.
Yes I have had one. Unless they have changed it is stamped steel with a single screw that pulls it together. I prefer the machined aluminum Nordic clamp. It is held together with 2 socket head machine screws. It is sized to fit the barrel and tube perfectly and you have the ability to attach a short piece of rail for a light or sling mount on the clamp. Maybe I shouldn’t have described the rem clamp as junk but it is crude compared to a Nordic clamp! The truth is the OP doesn’t need a clamp on a 2+ Nordic extension unless he plans on using the gun for a club. GH
If you go with the factory Remington kit, here’s a video of the correct sequence on the installation to prevent the spring from hanging up at the extension tube/magazine tube connection.
I’ve tried quite a few different mag extensions on my 870P, dialing in sling set-up, light placement, etc.
In my opinion, Wilson Combat/Scattergun Technologies makes the best mags extensions. Hands down.
I’ve tried +1 and +2 extension from Vang, Wilson, Remington, Choate and Tacstar. I’ll try to keep this simple… Choate and Tacstar are laughable compared to Wilson and Vang so they’re not even a consideration. The Remington factory extensions are okay but not nearly as good as Wilson or Vang. The problem I have with the Vang extension is the price. It’s $30 more than the Wilson and for no good reason that I can see. I think they are equal in quality, with a slight nod going to Wilson in the end.
I ended up with a +1 Wilson Right Hand Sling Slot. The +1 handles and balances so much better than the +2 for me that I’m willing to give up 1 round for it. But that’s just me… Wilson has a wide variety of extensions to meet any need you have for mounting a sling, or not if you so chose.
Mag clamps are a waste, I’ve never felt like my Wilson ext needed to be secured via a clamp. It’s never back out on me in the slightest.
As for Nordic, I had a +2 extension on a Benelli Nova I use to own but I could never get it to load the full amount of shells on a regular basis. Some times it would, sometimes it wouldn’t. I have NO experience with their extensions on 870’s but I wouldn’t even consider them over Vang or Wilson.
