I plan on purchasing a Colt 6920 and 1000rds. or ammo in the near future. The reputation of this AR rifle is legendary.
This rifle will be used for home defense, range and just general plinking. I know that a lesser rifle would fill this bill but a very wise man once told me that what ever you are going to buy consider what you can afford and then and spend a little more to get the best.
What is the one assessory, upgrade, add on,( not counting optics), that you would spend your money on?
I’m not in the military or have I ever been in LE so this will be my first AR.
It’s the truth. Owning a violin doesn’t make one a musician; training and practice do. Sully includes a coupon for a 2-day class with his guns. Good marketing.
Yes, I would love to attend a good class and I hope to do so in the future. One that includes rifle maintenance and basic fundamentals. Anybody know of one in central Alabama?
I would prioritize purchases to have the greatest effect on you being able to manipulate, maintain and effectively deploy the thing.
I don’t know how familair you are with the AR system.
Read the manual, so you know without hesitation, the parts and what they do.
Take it apart to clean and lube it properly. Which means proper equipment for that.
I would hold off on doing any drills until you are shown the fundementals and how to perform certain task(manipulation) Then you can practice the accuracy and speed drills.
Get enough magazines to attend a class, I would say six, a riggers belt, a Molle capatable pouch to hold 2-4 mags and some ammunition for the class. The gear is basic to get started and learn to use the gun verses how much gear you’ve invested in, get that stuff later. A good sling. worry about the light, rails and optics later. For the intent of this weapon, an Aimpoint, fixed rear BUIS and a simple rail for a light is it in my opinion.
The biggest thing I see problems from are the inability of the user to maintain the weapon and effectively manipulate the thing to deploy it. All training issues, just get the proper training, retain it through the right practice and re-training.
I like the DD 9.5" Lite Rail which has extended bottom and side rails that extend to the end of the FSB. I might be putting one of these on my Colt. For my shooting style they work well. Support hand is extended to the end of the rail/tube.
