I have one of the CMMG conversion kits and I love it. It has always performed perfectly. I have put around 1500 rounds through it so far, and it’s great.
Have you considered a S&W M&P 15-22? Just another option. I like mine.
I think spikes tacticals .22 conversion kits is of much higher quality than the cmmg kit, if you are really considering put a lot of .22’s down the pipe id pay the extra for the spikes

I was thinking of the CMMG conversion kit myself.
For anyone that has one: What practical training value does it have? Do you have to re-zero your sights/optics? I also read that the bolt does not lock back after the last round.
I wasn’t sure if it would be good for plinking or actual training.

Kind of. The newer mags hold the bolt open, but then drop it when you remove the mag to reload. Then you must cycle the charging handle to chamber the first round.
For me, the .22 conversion was a chance to shoot my AR for a fraction of the cost of 5.56, a good way to introduce others to shooting the AR without the blast and recoil of 5.56, and a way to get a decent .22 semi-auto for $200 or so.

I don’t have a whole lot of rounds through my CMMG but enough to like it. I use it on 1/2 size silhouette targets on a 50 yard pistol range, so I can simulate firing out to 100 yds. I run a 1.5X ACOG and since the the round drops substantially I have to go to a neck hold @ 50 yds for center hits.
I like it for drills at that range and all the way in. Good way to work on techniques without burning up centerfire ammo. But then I’ve been using .22 caliber subcaliber revolvers and 1911 conversion units for many years anyway.
Interesting to see the economy inspire so many conversions for Glocks, SIGs, Berettas, and BHPs.
I Just traded 2,000 rounds of 17 mach 2 ammo for a new spikes 22 conversion, curious do you guys think thats was a good deal
also will the spikes conversion take the remmington golden ammo ok?
no, at least mine didnt. It will cycle Aguila, Federal, and CCI well; copper plated works well.
I’ve got 1200 rounds thru my CMMG stainless conversion and have had one FTE just yesterday on my last range trip. The FTE was with the Agilia 60 grain sss ammo which is the most accurate I’ve found so far in my 1/7 Stag…ED

I had to do a little fine tuning with my CMMG, but ever since it has run flawlessly with Federal bulk, and CCI mini mags. If you want to work on transitioning to your side arm, use Remington golden bullets… they SUCK! The bigest advantage with the spikes kit is the finish and more importantly the extractor. When I overhauled my CMMG I installed a BDM extractor. The part plus shipping brought me up to the cost of a spikes. :rolleyes: If I had to do it again I’d go with spikes.
22 tends to be fairly corosive and im not really comfortable shooting it threw my 5.56 so i went with the m&p-15/22 little more spendy but its a good system. and i can set if up exactly the same as my rifle.
Nordic components is coming out with their own dedicated upper. It uses a heavier square bolt similar to that of a 10/22 as well as the same extractor so you can switch it out if you want. From pre-production gun reports it sounds very reliable.
I’ve got a Spikes .22LR upper and love it. I love it so much I’m thinking about buying it a matching lower. 
I initially bought a TacSol M4 upper. It works great! My grandson likes it so well that I never got to shoot it when we went to the range. I have since purchased a TacSol LT upper and another lower. It’s noticeably lighter and my grandson likes it even better than the M4. It also works great. These things are so cheap and fun to shoot they should be illegal!
