Berger 153.5 LR Hybrid Target Bullet in 6.5 Creed Part #26486

Hey guys, quick question on this bullet. I have had amazing success with the 147ELD from Hornady and shot them out to 1000rds. As good as they have been I figured I would/want to try the Berger 153.5s and see how they go. I have a Rem 5R in 6.5 Creed and it shoots good for me,the 147s have always done better than the 140ELD or even the Nosler RDFs for that matter. I have tried the Sierra 142s and a few lighter bullets but have always come back to the heavier ones. The twist is 1/8.
Just wondering if anyone has played around with these. I’m working up some loads now and hope to get out and test in the next few days if it ever stops raining. Using once fired Hornady brass out of my rifle with CCI BR-2 LRP and H4350. Brass has been full length sized and prepped. Thanks for any info.

I know they are “heavy for caliber” in a 6.5 CM, but I’d expect their accuracy to be great with proper load development.

Yea,I agree, the 6.5 ain’t got much ass left @ 1K but I’m just shootin for fun and accuracy and nothing super serious. Here are a couple groups @ 300 and then @ 1K with the 147s,I was pretty happy to say the least for a factory/stock rifle. It is a little bit older of a Remington so that could be a good thing,LOL I am content for the most part with the 147s but just figured I would try the 153.5s,I only bought 1 box with some other goodies from Creedmoore Sports so I threw them in with everything else.

Nice! The Rem 700 5r has always been a favorite of mine. Remington was unpredictable at the time I started shooting longer ranges, so I built my 6.5CM, but i was able to get an older Rem700 5r in 300WinMag that’s been a tack driver.

Never heard of these. We had mediocre luck with 147, and had one Bergara that hated them. Due to availability, we’ve just stuck with the 140 ELDMs.

Berger makes a great bullet, I like their 130 in the 6.5x47.

I guess as long as you can load them long and they will still fit in your chamber, why not :sunglasses:

I hear ya markm,a guy I shot with has a Bergara and its a love/hate thing with that rifle. He can get 3 shots touching with almost any bullet but can not get a good 5 shot group in his eyes. Always has flyiers and shoots the 147s alot also and has tried many others. Always bitching he is gonna send the rifle back and have em look at it,LOL.
I guess maybe I just lucked out, I bought this rifle used and has shot decent from day 1! Just so far the 147 ELDs shoot the best. The Berger 153.5s will be an adventure for sure. Will keep ya posted.
Here is a group with the 147s and Varget,I have since gotten better results with H4350,I’ll go see if I can find a pic.

Well I loaded some of the Berger 153.5s and they flew decent for me. Only 100yrd test today but will get out to some distance in the near future.1st group was out of a cold dirty bbl and I was surprised how well it shot. I have not cleaned my bbl since before I was @ the 1000yrd range back in April and have not shot this rifle since that time also.
Brass was from a box of Hornady match that I bought while at the range so this is the 1st loading on it.
AVG FPS:2602.5
ES:72.8
SD:23.7
Not the best numbers but it looks good,LOL I used H4350 @ 40.5 with CCI BR-2 LRP. OAL was 2.825,I came up with that from the Berger Factory ammo specs for that same bullet. I’ll mess with OAL as I go along. I loaded another 10 @ 41 grns and they didn’t shoot as well as the 40.5s at least not at this session. It was 90 degrees with little to no wind so I felt good about the day other than being hot,not AZ hot but still 90 out!
I still feel the 147 ELDs shoot a tic better at the moment but more work needs to be done before I really make a call. I’ll update as I go. I wonder how the Berger 140 & the 144s would shoot compared to the ELDs but that’s another $100+ just for bullets so time will tell.
Here is a pic of the targets.1&2 are the 40.5 loads and 3&4 are the 41 grn loads. The 2nd group (#2) of the 40.5 had better ES and SD but group not as good as the 1st I did pull the one lower shot but felt good about the rest. Anyways for you 6.5 guys maybe this is some good info or maybe not but had a good day at the range just the same.
