So last year I walked into a gun store with some cash burning a hole in my pocket. I was itching to buy something but have no idea what I wanted. I saw an Italian Beretta 92FS beaten to shit in the display case. The guy behind the counter tells me that this gun was the range rental 92 at the Los Angeles Gun Club. It’s now for sale for $350. I put some money down on it and came back a few weeks later to pick it up.
What better gun to make a project of. I’ve always loved Beretta 92’s, and always liked the stainless look on them. Before I waked out of the store that day I knew what I was going to do to it.
Install Skeleton Hammer
Install Novak Rear Sight
Chop barrel, flush to slide.
Order some bad ass grips
Install new locking block (since I had no idea how many rounds fired.)
Get metal trigger and magazine release.
Send to Robar for NP3 finish.
Well I think my project turned out really well. I got it on Thursday and wanted to wait until I showed my range buddies on Saturday before posting. Everyone loved the Beretta and agreed that it was one bad ass looking pistol. Now on with the pics.
BEFORE.
Poor thing.
AFTER.
Robar did all the work, including installing all the small parts requested. I couldn’t be happier with the work. I now have two Sigs, P6 & P228, two HKs, P7M8 & P2000 and now a Beretta that have been NP3’s. The finish came out just perfect and the grips look great. Needless to say, I’m a very happy camper.
Special Thanks to gotm4 for helping me get the metal magazine release or this gun might still be Arizona.
Wow, that really looks terrific. I really like the hammer, flush barrel and finish. You’re insprinig me to hold on to my beretta 92fs that I have been considering selling. I do almost all of my shooting w/ Glock 9mm but I do want to be able to show my kids one day what “mom and dad” carried in the service.
AFAIK, there are 2 versions of the skeletonized hammer. The original one was much lighter, and only offered on the original 92 Elite. You have the 2nd version, which was offered on the Elite II, and some other guns. Your version should be the same weight as the 92D (DAO) hammer, so light strikes from the lighter hammer should be a non issue. If you do have light primer strikes, I’d look at the NP3 coating in the firing pin channel. They’ve been known to apply it too thick which can slow down the pin sufficiently to cause a light primer strike.
Very nice indeed…well done. I was wondering if you had the chance to shoot it prior, and how the accuracy, trigger reset and overall operation, is now.
