Beretta Cheetah 87 (.22 LR). Are these any good?

I’m looking for a plinker & .22 gun for instructional purposes. Are the Cheetah (80 series) guns any good? The model 87 is the .22. Other guns in the line are:

81 - .32 ACP
84, 85, 86 - .380 ACP
87 - .22 LR

Thanks,

Jason

ooooh great idea.

SCRATCH THAT! $845 suggested retail!

So far, the Cheetah is by far my favorite .22 pistol. That said, there’s no way in hell I’d ever pay for one. They’re rude expensive for a .22 plinker.

neato but ouch on the price.

They were on my “radar” for years, but a low-priority item. I finally sprung for one earlier this year. There aren’t many options in it’s niche, IMO that being a high-quality, mid-size, double action semi automatic .22lr pistol. FYI, I got mine from Bud’s.

So, what do you like about it and what do you not like about it?

Thanks,
Jason

I really want one for a suppressor host and general plinker .22. The only reason I don’t have one yet is price. They’re very, very expensive for what they are.

I do have a lot of trigger time in with one, though.

Generally speaking, they’re not nearly as easy to shoot well as a Ruger MKIII or Browning Buckmark, which are available for 1/2 to 1/3 of the price.

The 87 Cheetah is probably the only quality choice in that size package.

The only thing I didn’t like, was the credit card bill when I bought it.

Accurate, reliable, fits my hand, looks good.

CDNN has spare barrels for relatively cheap, I bought one with the intention of someday having it threaded (w/ adapter) for my SWR Spectre.

Does it’s trigger esp DA lend itself to the role as an “understudy” gun for the 92FS?

I have had my 87 for a couple of years. It’s my favorite .22 by far. It feels like an actual firearm unlike many .22’s which are cheap junk. It is quite well made and a joy to shoot. I had my barrel threaded and an extension made for it by Aguila fireams in Texas. I shoot it most often with my Gemtech .22 Outback. Is it expensive? Hell yes. Is it probably the nicest .22 plinker out there? Yes.

Please note though, it’s not a competition gun nor is it as flexible as say a Buckmark or Ruger. It’s just a really well made .22 pistol suitable for an afternoon at the range or as a trail gun. I love mine and won’t part with it.

It’s “close enough for gov’t work”, but a .22 conversion kit for the 92/96 would be cheaper and more realistic for that purpose. However, our dept’s Beretta brand conversion kit was not very reliable, but I suppose that was good for practicing malfunction drills.

I have an 87 and 87 Target in 22LR and they are the only Beretta’s I still own after owing many other Berettas. I can highly recommend these 22s. They are extremely reliable and accurate, based on my experiences.
