I finally got my first Beretta today, a used 92G. Its in very good shape, especially since it was made in 1991 according to Beretta USA. I did replace the recoil spring with a new 13lb Wolff & the previous owner put a new “D” hammer spring in it a couple of months ago.
Even though it seems like it is fairly low mileage due to the overall condition, what springs should I replace on it? I know the trigger spring is considered a normal breakage item. Is the Wolff INS Trigger Spring worth the extra cash over the normal Wolff trigger springs?
Its mostly going to be used for the range, and occasionally a defensive pistol.
ETA: I tend to do a LOT of dry-firing (with a snap cap), so the trigger will be getting used a lot mostly in S/A mode.
Personally, I do not like the INS trigger spring gadget. It negatively impacts the overall feel of the trigger pull, especially the reset. It’s more economical to change the trigger spring excessively often (say every 5k).
Since I will be putting together a order from Wolff, should I go ahead & replace the Trigger Bar Return Spring, and the Slide Stop Spring while I have it taken apart?
Also the seller gave me 6 Airtronic .mil contract magazines. He told me they would not consistently lock the slide back on the last round, but always fed fine. I was thinking about replacing the magazine springs in all of them to see if that is the issue. Should I replace them with the +5% or +10% springs?
I have no direct knowledge of airtronic. I would not put good springs in crappy mags. It has been along time since I wasted money on mags of dubious heritage.
I’ve never found a non-factory M9/92 mag that I could trust 100%. Of the factory mags, I prefer the older ones with the aluminum follower as I generally had even fewer issues with them than with the plastic-follower factory mags.

1 Slide Lock Spring
1 Trigger Bar Return Spring
1 Wolff INS Trigger Conversion Unit (Standard Weight)
3 +10% XP Magazine Springs
I cleaned all the Airtronic mags out last night, and some were pretty dirty. I’ll replace the spring on 3 magazines, and mark the ones I changed. That way I can see if the springs were weak, or if they were just dirty before dropping another $17 on 3 more springs. If I experience issues with the Airtronic mags I’ll keep them for range use only, and just buy some more MDS/PB/Mec-Gar magazines for defensive use.
I have three of these and three of the newer CheckMate mags with the greenish/grey teflon finish and they work fine. Never had a problem with them other than the occasional failure to lock the slide back but thats hampered by my thumb hold I’m sure. I’ve put Wolf +10% mag springs in all of them lately and that seemed to solve the slide lock issue, so maybe it wasn’t my thumb. Either way, I wouldn’t worry about them, they seem fine to me and thats after 1000+ rds. through a few different 92s.
MDS seems to be the best value in my book. They are factory Beretta, but without the logo, making them cheaper in price. CDNN has them for just shy of $15 currently. They also come with the older aluminum base plates while new Beretta mags come with the polymer ones.
