There is a new Benelli MR1 on the major gun auction site and it is bidding for less than $1,000.00. Is this something worth considering at that price point? I know some people think it is butt ugly, but I like how it looks.
If you like it, have the money to spend and just want it to plink, who cares?
If you’re looking for a serious fighting gun and are on a limited budget the equation changes a bit.
That’s not to say it isn’t a serious gun but rather it’s still untested.
Like GJ said, it’s your money.
But is there some reason you’d buy that instead of an AR?
yea and you know the name will back up the performance!
With all due respect, many many firearms manufacturers have a great reputation and still make jacked up firearms.
If I was buying a self-loading shotgun, the Benelli would be at the top of my list.
If I were buying a 5.56 defensive carbine, I’d probably buy a Bushmaster first.
I was just thinking about it as a plinking gun. I have a DI AR and an Adams Arms piston AR, so the Benelli would not be something I’d have to go with in a crisis.
Hey then knock yourself out. Buy it for a song, run a few K of ammo through it and let us know what it does.
Why not a mini-14 then if you just want a plinker. It is much cheaper with vastly better after market support.
The MR1 used to be the Beretta RX4 Storm, the internals are the same but the RX4 had a collapsible stock, tri or quad rail, and a muzzle device if I remember correctly. I held the current Benelli version and was not pleased at all. The mag release is too far forward, the butt does not collapse like the originals did ( it uses a Benelli shotgun type buttstock not my favorite for a carbine ), and the rifle just feels awkward to me. I agree with VB about the Mini-14 for plinking, its fun and reliable.
When I handled one the first thing I noticed was how much of an abortion it’s ergonomics are.
This is a very valid point
A friend of mine just got sponsored by Bennelli and he’s getting or has already gotten a couple of these and a couple vinci shotguns for coyote hunting. I’m not sure if he has much trigger time with it yet but I’ll ask him his opinion of it next time I see him.
