Military calls it the M1014. I had them in both Units I was apart of, but my deployment to Iraq we didn’t use them at all. The Armorer would carry one when going on convoy, and the only other time I saw them were Marines on guard at Camp HOB and TQ.
I’m pretty sure he knows what he is talking about, but I would like to hear his rationale for it.
I thought carrier comp was titanium and therefore lighter and stronger than factory? Do any folding stocks other than the Benelli factory collapsable work?
At least for the Marine Corps, we’ve used the M1014 in my unit for our last 3 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. You will only mostly see grunt units with these on a regular basis.
Can’t help you with anything else except I personally love this weapon system, it’ll feed whatever ammo you put in it. Even operating in shitty conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan the weapon stays pretty clean, even with all the dust and putting a lot of rounds through it. It’s never failed once when needed it.

i read somewhere M4 and M1014 uses different parts. not just sock, M1014 gets better barrel (heavy line).
I agree with all of the above except regarding the “Carrier Comp” tube. I feel that it is better than OEM. I purchased a “replacement” OEM tube from Numrich (I think it is just a re-labled LE tube, as it matched the weapon PERFECTLY for color, etc. and looked the same as my OEM 5-shot tube). On my next 2 M4’s, I purchased Carrier Comp tubes. The finish was a very good match, the tube was lighter, and it was apparent when installing it that the tolerances were MUCH better on the Carrier Comp product. He holds the threads to ± .0001 last I recall (maybe it was just thousandths, either way, it’s very near, if not, Aerospace quality. The guy is a former has a rather impressive bio. Very VERY picky about stuff he makes.). I could care less really, as Benelli probably holds them to a lot looser standards, but it sure is a nice product!
Thanks WS6 for your input. That’s what I wanted to know, instead of just saying the factory is better without any explanations. From what I gathered, some of the aftermarket extensions are highly regarded.
Unless you are LE, you can’t get OEM anyways. Dunno if you are or not.
I had a half dozen of them in Iraq in 04-05. At that time there wasn’t much written about the system let alone any type of qual. course. I was lucky enough to attend Gunsite 260 and AI for Louis Awerbuck @ Pendleton for a couple of courses, prior to deployment.
The guns had their issues. Mainly the O-rings in the gas assist system. The Marine Corps had no replacement inventory at the time and I ended up buying them from a hardware store. Not at all the same O-ring but it worked better than a worn OEM part. My guns had to run wet and didn’t like being dirty. The stock just plain sucks, like all Benelli stocks. It’s just too long. We had no method of attaching a light at that time.
I’d have to add that I am a biased 870 fan, still the 1014 did not impress me.
How exactly were the O-rings going bad? It’s a non-moving part, so I can’t see what was going wrong unless the act of removing/installing the piston was performed in such a way as to damage it.

Exactly. Disassembly to clean, which was constant as all a Marines’ weapons are.
Were you forced to take them apart? The gas assy. does not need to be cleaned. It really doesn’t. I thought this “self-cleaning” was BS, but in THIS CASE, it is not. My friend fired over 8,000 rounds through his M4 without cleaning it. Never a failure. I have fired several hundred through mine and when I took the gas system down, it was readily apparent that the gas system was not going to get clogged up. The bcg/rails, sure, clean 'em, but if it’s between cleaning/not cleaning the gas system, if the O-rings will be damaged, don’t do it. However, I bet it would function fine even if you removed the O-rings.
Matches my experience with Kip at Carriercomp. The free Wolff spring he sends with the full length 7 round titanium tube was a nice touch too. He’s sending me a US follower when he gets them back in stock at no extra charge. Leaves nothing to be desired, since he doesn’t force you to buy each piece seperately. Nothing is worse than buying a tire on sale, and finding out the valve stems made the final price match the regular price down the road.
I may go with a SureFire forend to get closer to 922r kosher. Any one tried them?

Either way I will be selling the black Freedom Fighter Tactical US made forends (handguards) that came used with my BM4 desert tan gun. Previous owner never painted them. They fit so-so (loose, kinda creaky, slightly warped), and FFT won’t take them back unless I can demonstrate they won’t attach at all:confused:.
Please PM if interested in the FFT forearm/forend. It is still in the box sent to original owner with all original paperwork and like new. Not terribly refined fit/materials IMHO, but they are 922r compliant, and correct for the Benelli M4. $35 shipped to CONUS.
I was just asking this question on another post. I’m glad I saw this. I’ve been trying to decide on what light to get. I also had a hell of a time finding a sling I liked for the M4. I’ll take a look at the Vickers sling
