Benelli M2 Versions

We all know that there are qualitative differences between Remington 870 lines. In other words the 870P is a different gun with different quality control processes than the 870 Express or Tactical.

Does anyone know if this holds true for the Benelli M2 line?

There is the Tactical version, the Field Version, the Sporting/Target Version and then there is the economic “American” line.

Are these all essentially the same gun/operating system with same component parts? or are there differences, subtle or otherwise that distinguish price points?

What are you getting and what are you paying for?

If I were looking for a Benelli for skeet, hunting and tactical/3 gun does it make more sense to get a field/american version and then buy a tactical barrel? or buy the tactical version and then buy a skeet/hunting barrel?

Thanks in advance.

I stand to be corrected but on the Benelli M2 series only differ on stock configuration, finish, barrel length and mag tube capacity. Operating receiver is the same.

For three gun get a 21 oe 24 inch field model. The tactical model has Ghost Ring sights which suck for three gun. Great for defense but they suck on moving clays in the air and are generally slower from target to target. Use a M2 with a fiber optic front bead on a vent rib barrel.

You actually can get a tactical barrel with rifle sights. I hate ghost rings so no danger there. The issue is mostly that the field barrels are more expensive than the tactical barrel while the shotgun itself is cheaper. Go figure.

You’d have to buy an mag extender no matter what gun you chose.

In that regard I thought the getting a field shotgun then buying a tactical barrel made more economic sense unless there was some qualitative difference between the receivers/op mechanism.

Sorry to kind of hijack this, but what abiut differences between the M1 and M2? I have been looking for a reasonably priced M1 tactical, and all I can find locally is the M2.

Mobil (M1) vs. Crio chokes (M2)
Comfortec stock on M2
Stainless recoil-tube in M2
Ability to ghost-load in the M1 without modification.

Just off the top of my head.
