Being an old turnbolt br shooter, I think bringing in the AR’s might actually grow the sport. Running a condition with an auto could get interesting.
I’m sure there are lots of old farts pissing and moaning.
[b]Rules for AR and AR-style ri es in IBS competition - January 2010
E ective March 1, 2010, IBS has created an AR ri e class on a one-year, trial basis to allow
these ri es to compete at an IBS sanctioned tournament.
Speci c rules for participation by these ri es are:
GENERAL
- The class is named “AR ri es”. This class does not compete against any other recognized ri e class de ned
in the IBS rule book. - The AR ri es would be o cially “non-registered”, but would be held under the aegis of the IBS.
- Rules speci c to the AR class:
Any AR or AR-style ri e may be shot, including AR-10
18 # weight limit
Any trigger
Any scope
Any barrel
May be shot semi-auto, MUST USE BRASS CATCHER
Maximum of two clips brought to bench
Maximum 10 round clip
No ash suppressors, but approved IBS tuner is allowed
Muzzle must extend beyond front of bench
Sand bags must meet IBS rules, but bi-pods are allowed - Clubs with a scheduled group, long-range or score tournament (except Nationals) may o er the AR class,
but are not required to. - AR class may be shot on the same relay as BR class ri es, but should be "squaded together” if possible.
- Ranges do not have to give trophies for the new class–certi cates to high nishers would be adequate. If
shooter participation is su cient, the range may elect to give trophies. - AR class cannot be shot at any Nationals.
SAFETY - IBS accepts NRA-approved chamber ag indicators to verify a safe ri e.
- All competitors in AR class MUST attend mandatory benchrest safety brie ng to be held 15 minutes before
the day’s competition. - Unsafe or reckless shooting behavior or non-adherence to IBS rules (general rule book and AR-speci c
rules) will result in a disquali cation from the tournament.

The reasons for IBS support of AR Benchrest matches are:
–It furthers IBS mission of fostering extreme ri e accuracy.
–Introduces new shooters to bench rest shooting and adds new IBS members.
–IBS may become the primary vehicle to showcase the ultimate accuracy of “black ri es”.
–The AR ri e community is an extraordinarily large and active group that should not be
ignored.
–New shooters at the matches may gravitate to traditional BR ri es.
–Infuse the IBS and IBS-matches with new enthusiasm.
–Raise the pro le of benchrest shooting amongst other serious ri emen.[/b]
