poison
I am always a bit amazed how stupid people are, but here you go.
People are angry RFK jr wants to do away with poison in your foods.
I have to assume that is at least partially a conservative kink that anything that impedes those at the top levels of wealth gaining more wealth equals communism.
Opposition to the bailouts in general would get that accusation and those critical of bonuses being paid with bail out money were running around in Che’ t-shirts.
I’m getting up there, but if you want a snap shot of how we as a Nation used to look go to YouTube and look at Woodstock.
250,000 people and the only Fat Guy you will find is singing for “Canned Heat”.
We are somehow being fattened up like prize Hogs.
Lol even in to 80’s there weren’t many obese people, certainly not as the average.
Honestly I’m more excited about RFK than Trump. He’s the single most important aspect of trump’s victory.
Have you seen the Canadian Frootloops vs American Frootloops side by side? They taste the same but the American version is packed with colorings and additives banned in most of the world. We add them so they look bright and appealing to 3 year olds in the good old USA. So we can sell more. Health be damned. And people are fighting this because they would rather see RFK fail than have him succeed. It’s unbelievable to me. We let our political hatred drive decisions that are detrimental to the public good just so the other side will look bad. It didn’t used to be that way. I’m ashamed of what we’ve become.
Got a friend that immigrated to Norway years ago. Norway has probably banned more food colorings than anywhere else. He ain’t starved yet. Guess you can still eat it even if it isn’t dyed like a pride flag.
BTW, for those who don’t know, all the fruit loops taste the same. Doesn’t matter what color they are.
Gotta admit though, I’ve got a summertime addiction to cheap freezer pops. I’d kinda miss being able to tell them apart.
Pretty disgusting isn’t it?
Right and wrong don’t matter anymore because we’ve allowed our two Political Parties to devolve into a “Win at any cost, no holds barred” WWF Match.
We grew up with farm fresh unpasturized Milk and eggs with bright orange yolks from our own chickens.
We didn’t eat cereal because we fed the Chickens cereal to get our eggs.
If it got really cold you got anti gravity oat meal with your eggs. It’s anti gravity oat meal because you can turn the bowl upside down and it’s too damned thick to fall out the bowl.
Franken-Food is the term I heard most while in Germany discussing American food items.
With so much of it coming out of a bag from some big factory, are we really surprised? Who cooks natural foods these days? Can you even buy a wide a variety of vegetables where you live outside of large cities and a high paying job?
Let’s see, Strawberries in January that task like cardboard, potatoes from a box, flavorless bread, …
“Right and wrong don’t matter anymore because we’ve allowed our two Political Parties to devolve into a “Win at any cost, no holds barred” WWF Match.”
That’s not true - only one side has adopted the “win at any cost” strategy - and it certainly isn’t the American side.
There is no American side.
It’s freaking hard man.
We (mostly) do it, but it freaking costs.
Only way we can afford to is by owning our land/home outright and by me making enough to allow my wife, who is a nurse by trade, to have retired to stay home. Food prep is a full time job when you do stuff like baking your own bread, from your own flower, that you grind from your own (or locally purchased) wheat berries. My kids go through at least 3 loaves of that bread per week.
Our meat consumption is mostly venison, chicken (eggs), and lamb again harvested/raised and butchered here at home.
Vegetables? Good f@$king luck. Rural Oklahoma’s produce is absolute garbage. This is the only place we really fall short but we’re building a big greenhouse this year so we can grow more of our own to freeze dry. Otherwise the only game in town is frozen veggies.
Living like this costs me at a minimum 80-100k/year by my wife staying home.
It’s a luxury, as perverse as that sounds, to be able to afford the time, labor, and monetary investment that self sufficiency requires.
Most people simply can’t afford to live that way even if they are willing.
We only do it because I won’t feed my children poison.
Got a question or 2 for people who have been in Germany.
Am i understanding correctly that German sushi in the video below is ground raw pork? How does that work? I have always thought raw pork or raw ground beef is the express lane to food borne illness so I really can’t wrap my head around ground raw pork
Other than that, lots of fried food and fairly large portions, but no one appears to be what has become common American sized. The chunkiest ones i recall were staff, but they seem to be one side or the other of 60 years old.
I ain’t even going to pretend that I take this as seriously as some. Hell, I have copped to my freezer pop habit. I drink soda, and I eat a fair bit of food with ingredients I would have to be a chemist to understand.
I (meaning my wife
) try to eat healtier foods but who the hell has the time to be a purist. No offense to Grendelshooter and the like but damn that would be tough, and I live on smallish, rural property.
I know whats in my beef because I watch them eat it. Same with our eggs. My wife bakes a little but most of our breads/grains are bought. Some with a decerning eye, some not. Vegetables are bought and most come from who knows where. Unless you are home canning there ain’t many alternatives.
To them as has the will to do it, more power to you. Me, I guess I’ll do what I have the attention for and take my chances with the rest.
If y’all think that the same government that brought us the CDC, NIH, FDA, HHS, etc. is going to somehow turn around these health agencies just by having the right guy installed, you’re in for a rude awakening. These same agencies that allow crap through ban perfectly safe or less unhealthy food ingredients too. If you think that they’re going to somehow start deciding what to ban and what to allow based on scientific evidence, you’re going to go right down the path that everyone else has who looks for government to take care of them. What’s allowed now and what’s banned now is primarily based on who advocates ($$$) the most, not on scientific reality. The government tried to stamp out low-cost solutions to COVID because they showed that most of the money we’ve been feeding these agencies was a waste.
As Grendelshooter pointed out, if you want to eat healthy, it’s going to cost you time and money. The fact is that most people would rather spend their money on other stuff and spend their time on more fun things than food preparation. Plus, we’re wealthier now and food overall tastes better than it did in the past, not to mention the greater food variety that we have. Thinking back to when I grew up in the '80’s, there were not as many healthy food options as there are today. The primarily reason that people are fatter today is that they eat more and are significantly less active. Two or three pounds isn’t much, but if you add that on every year, you’ll be 40lbs to 60lbs overweight in twenty years.
We primarily learn our habits, including eating, when we’re young. In the past that was ok because starvation was a concern and there wasn’t enough food for people to get fat on anyway. Things are different now and it takes discipline to change bad habit.
Before you go down the route of granting bureaucrats the power to ban stuff that they deem is in your best interest, consider their mindset. They never get to the point where they say “We’re done now. Everything’s good.” They always want to ban more and more because it justifies their existence. They want you to depend on them because it’s empowering.
If you want to be healthy, you have to do it yourself. Start by purchasing foods that are healthy and avoiding those that are crap. The marketplace is already changing for the better and it will continue to change as more people demand healthier food options.
Regarding RFK, I do hope that he shakes things up, especially when it comes to the fallacy that the more vaccines the better and vaccines can never hurt you. My 24-year-old son was permanently injured by a vaccine and the dopes at the CDC are still pushing the same crap. Those who decide the vaccine schedules are primarily the same people who developed them and financially benefit from their sales. All this said, I still recognize that RFK’s a committed leftist. If he had the power, he’d ban your guns in a second claiming they represent a health risk. Hopefully, Trump will keep him in line.
That’s all most reasonable people can do.
I will admit to being odd.
If I was wealthy I’d be called eccentric, but since I’m not I guess I’m just nuts ![]()
I know as a reasonable Man that I can only do so much, so that’s what I do.
I try and eat foods with the fewest ingrediants, but I know that the odds are against me. Even if I had all the money in the World, I can only do so much.
So I do my best to eat healthy, cook at home and read labels, that’s all you can do.
In the World we live in you deserve to know whats in your food, you should feel reassured that the ingrediants are listed on the label and that your not being poisoned.
You aren’t getting that now.
I hope RFK fixes it.
I guess my biggest concern with this stuff is less about “they are trying to kill me with this poison”. I look at it more like tolerance stacking. Sure a little of this or a little of that ain’t gonna hurt you. Hell you can straight up eat rat poison without consequence if the servings are small enough. Trouble is that it all adds up. A little here, a little there, and by the end of the day you have stuffed a pretty big pile of crap down your gob.
The food industry is selling it, but we are buying it. They are meeting our demands. Be they concious demands or not.
You’d think that after thousands of years stuffing things in our faces that humans would have this eatin business figured out by now. We may be smart monkeys, but we are still monkeys.
That’s very true about a lot of our choices,
But the Canadian vs USA frootloops thing kind of negates that argument, I would guess thats nickles and dimes.
I mean where else in the World are you going to be able to find caramel syrup that makes a hard shell on the outside of your ice cream? Only in the USA and at your local Wal Mart.
So how many chemicals does it take to make fake caramel that reacts to cold temperatures and becomes hard? 2, 6, 12, or more than 25?
