Beltman vs. Comp-Tac

Hey guys,

I am looking to purchase my first gunbelt for CCW. I am having trouble deciding between these two belts as I have heard nothing but good things about both. Does anyone have any experience with both of these?

My beltman belt is top notch quality. I got a horsehide 1.5" (kind of wish I’d gotten 1.25 now, but eh) belt.

Beltman for sure…

Also check out TTgunleather. His belts are just as good as beltman and he gets them out in a week.

Do you find that the 1.5" is incompatible with certain pants? This is a concern of mine.

I have a beltman 1.5", which I love. I’ve never had a pair of pants where the belt wouldn’t fit through the belt loops. With some dressier pants the loops are a little tight though. I’ve never found myself wishing I’d gon 1.25". Hope that helps.

+1 on the Beltman. I’ve been wearing one of his 1.5" bull hide belts for a couple years now, and have been very happy with it.

Edit to add: I hope some guys chime in with experience with the Comp-Tac. I’m interested in hearing some opinions on them also.

Personally, I have never found a 1 1/4" belt to give enough support for my tastes.

Not to muddy the waters but I like Looper Leather Belts. They offer kydex inner lined leather belt for only $44. I’ve had one for over a year now, worn it every day. It supports my Glock 22 or H&K Compact in a C.T.A.C holster great.

As I said they are kydex lined and even offer the option of velcro.

I just got my first beltman belt 1 1/2 model, I really like it, haven’t used it to ccw yet but so far it looks terrific and is very sturdy. Nicest leather belt I have owned to date. I tried the safariland belt too, and it is ok but the beltman is much better.

I use the wilderness tactical belts for nylon.

1.5" is a good compromise. I have a 1.5" Milt Sparks belt and it is great. Most pants/shorts I’ve worn still seem to be able to accommodate a 1.75" belt, so I’ll be getting one of those for my next gun belt (probably a Beltman). My first gunbelt was a 1.25" belt and it always felt lacking, even though it was a Milt Sparks. I’d only ever wear a 1.25" belt if I absolutely had to for some reason.

Another +1 for 1.5 Beltman. I’ve carried some pretty heavy kit on it and it stays strong and comfortable. Now if only my waistline would sit still.

I recommend any of the following …

Wilderness
A&G
Beltman
Milt Sparks
Andrews
TT Gunleather or Occidental

… in no particular order. I own several of the above. I mostly wear my TT shark belt or my Wilderness 5 stitch.

I don’t own either but just thought I’d throw out Crossbreed as another option. I just bought a 1.5" belt from them and it’s great.

I guess I’m the only one with a Comp-Tac belt. It is the only brand I’ve ever purchased, so I can’t comment on the other brands mentioned, but going from a normal belt to this one I’m very happy. I have the 1.5", which does have issues fitting into dress slacks, but all my shorts, jeans and work pants it fits fine into. If you don’t want to wait for the other ones, the week it takes to get things from Comp-Tac is a good compromise.

Me too. That Crossbreed belt is incredibly thick and well made.

I’ve used a Beltman belt for over five years now and I don’t have any complaints. It’s been a great belt.

Some of my khakis have belt loops that are too narrow for a proper 1.5 inch fit… the belt will go through but only with much pushing and cajoling.

I’m still wearing my ancient 1.25 inch uncle mikes nylon ‘leather look’ belt with some of my dress pants till I get around to ordering a smaller belt from beltman to wear with the dress pants.
