Being too picky or unacceptable?

I sent an upper off to half a muzzle brake perm’d so I went ahead and sent my rail with it to have it installed. I got it back today but upon inspection, the fsb is cocked to one side. Is this ok? Will it affect zeroing of the irons? I’m still learning but I’m not sure if I should send it back or not? Any help is greatly appreciated. Pics:

That is TOTALLY unacceptable, however, I can’t figure out how they could cant the FSB if all they did was pin a muzzle device and install a rail…

I highly doubt that you will be able to zero that upper (I have shot some weapons with less cant than that, that could not be zeroed.)

Obviously the rail you had installed required removal of the FSB as I see no other reason to remove it.

Now, having said that…I dont see how any competent gunsmith/armorer could cant a FSB, not notice it and then ship it back…

I’m no where near a trained gunsmith and I’ve removed and replaced a pile of FSB’s with out a hickup.

Call them and let them know how crappy the Quality Control is and send it back.

I know sh*t happens, but that’s absolutely unacceptable.

My guess without seeing the entire gun is they egged out the slot in the upper rec which holds the barrel extension pin. When they installed the barrel nut the barrel turned with the barrel nut, and egged it out.

You can get away with a slight cant but the sights do need to be in close alignment with the bore. With a cant like that you can often zero the gun at 100 yards but past that the LOS and POI are not on the same plane.

I would not accept that.

Is the rail installed correctly? I assume so, so it lines up with the uppers flat top.

I wouldn’t have hesitated to give them a call ASAP.

Good point.

I just looked at the pics. Doesn’t look like the FSB would have been removed and replaced for that rail.

Yea thats what I figured-call em and send it back. If the barrel moved and the muzzle device was attached after, I guess that will have to be cut off too.

Its a dd lite rail. I thought the fsb had to be removed to install?

My bad…your right, it does. I wasnt sure what rail you had.

I dont know man, Damn sure aint right though.

What’s killin’ me is that it was sent back like that. There’s no way they couldnt have noticed.

And theres no marks or nicks to suggest it was dropped or anything during shipping.

It’d have to be a heck of a drop to do something like that. I dont see any possible way that could have happened in shipping.

I agree. Guess i’ll call first thing tomorrow.

I think of two potential causes: 1st, the extension indexing pin is not in it’s slot on the upper receiver. If that is the case, no worries because you don’t need to remove the FSB entirely from the barrel to remove the barrel or tighten the barrel nut. All you need to do is pop out the taper pins, slide the FSB forward, unbolt the 6 bolts on the lite rail, slide the rail forward and go about the normal procedure for removing and installing the barrel.

Or worse, the second cause would be they did something wrong and sheered off the indexing pin by significantly over torquing the barrel nut. That would be a bit more problematic.

As others have said that looks pretty far off and I’d be calling them to complain as well. That should have been caught before it got sent back to you.

Please update us with the shop/vendor and what they do to try and make it right.

Man,
Send that thing back pronto, but take pics. That’s just wrong. Give a detailed account, and tell them to make it right.

And don’t forget to ask for pre-paid postage.

Are you sure it wasn’t like that before you sent it off?

No it isn’t right and yes you should contact them and tell them to make it right. On the other hand I would be hesitant to do so since they obviously screwed the pooch once.

Good question.

No I’m not actually. However, this upper is brand new and it’s a BCM. It is possible but highly unlikely.
