I dont know what it is, but I just love beat up rifles. I think we should start a pic thread for beat up guns. So, post em’ up.
Good idea. I like em too. But mine is not beat up enough yet to post…
This here is a beater.
Good call. I LOVE a well used rifle and 1911. One of my BCMs and my DD M4 are getting some good wear in and I love it. I don’t think they qualify yet for this thread though.
issued M4 of a good friend of mine in Iraq

What’s the story to that?
I don’t know. I’m sure an IED attack. ![]()
If it’s not IED damage, which I’m sure we all wish it’s not, I recall a couple of pictures similar to that of Georgian Bushmasters the Russians destroyed.
I remember the source of that pic. It WAS an IED which destroyed a Bradley. But if I recall, no serious injuries to U.S. personnel.
What blows my mind is that the sling is still intact…
ETA: Might that be an A4? Looks to be rifle length flat top. I believe these are mostly carried by USMC/Navy. Never seen any in the Army.
That is correct.
It has a fixed buttstock, so yeah, looks like an A4 to me, too.
OK, the butt was fixed–now, not so much.
my ARNG unit had A4s for what its worth…
Was the castle nut staked? ![]()
No castle nut. ![]()
1st BDE, 4th ID had some M16A4’s when I was at Ft Hood. Theyre out there.
I’m surprised somebody didn’t say “bad handload”.

I’ve got about a thousand more of these…
Here’s an A4 after an IED attack back in 04’. No idea where the upper receiver went to

The rifle and the truck were the only casualties from that one.
Not saying they aren’t out there. Just never seen them in Army hands. Modularity changed a bunch of dynamics pertaining to equipment, etc. My unit in the 101st ABN had to laterally transfer most of our M4s to the new 4th BDE, 101st and we were issued brand new M16A2’s as replacements. I am sure many units were issued lots of different weapons based on the gaps created by all the changes.
