Bcm vfg mod3 with urxiii *how to video*

Can someone explain the difference besides storage? It seems the mounting is different also, but not really sure what the difference is from a user standpoint if you don’t use storage.

Also, looking to mount on a urxiii. Anyone think there’s a way to direct mount to one of the holes?

Thanks.

Mod 3 attaches with a tool from the bottom to engage slot. The other “short”, uses a genius twist off QD mechanism.

I believe the mod 3 is lighter, cheaper, and slimmer at the attachment point.

The QD vfg is very nice to have (or remove) when shooting off various barriers.

I don’t see how you will direct attach any vfg to a urx 3. It would have to be large enough to span 2 of the holes to avoid turning. I think youd be better off with just screwing on a mag extension or 1 of the other 30 dollar wizbang hand stops.

Or just buy the damned Gucci kac panel kit with hand stop.

I have the hand stop, I want more, and the angle is what I’m looking for. Don’t need qd so I’ll probably go with the mod 3.

I actually just found Military Morons page and he had a side by side of them. I’m thinking the mod3 may direct attach if I modify it. I’ll update this with results once I get it. Worst case I need to add a rail section. Thanks for the response.

I think the bcm had metal inserts to engage the keymod. It would be easier to buy an original pre mlok magpul mvg. It has 1 hole in the center with 2 plastic studs that are easily sanded flat.

The m lok model might be even easier,

If you measure your urx 3 screw holes center to center, I can measure my m lok mvg for you.

The bcm mod3 has one hole, I’m thinking the metal clamps will keep it from twisting.

Holes are 1.57" apart center to center. The holes are the same as a 5 slot mlok panel.

I was hoping you could easily zip 2 fasteners up through the bottom of a magpul and engage 2 screw holes. I’m measuring 1.5" exactly at the absolute farthest points, not even close if you elongated the holes. Maybe the BCM products are bigger. I don’t have 1 to help you with, just the QD.

I see you are thinking about using the picatiny version, maybe that could work! There’s got to be a m lok foregrip out there that measures over 1.6" long at the base.

Good luck!

Hmm, okay thanks. I’ll update with how it goes.

Well, got the mod3 in. I purchased a 1" 1/4" x 20 bolt (same as urx3 handstop), reused the square nut, drilled out the hole in the mod 3 to accept the bolt, and it fits…

And it feels great!

I have a spare URX 3.1 and I am really tempted to have some MLOK slots milled into it. I wonder if the metal is thick enough. My only complaint about that rail is how hard it is to attach things to it. Otherwise it’s light and well made.

I think the slots are spaced right for it. I guess it depends who you know and if it’s worth the money or just getting a urx4. I’d say it should be thick enough, this is rock solid with 1 square nut. It would be cool as hell though.

As for the raIL itself, I love it. If I was buying today, I’d still consider it.

Nice. I need to do this.

Is this the Picatinny or KM version?

What makes it a “Mod 3”?

I have a URX4 on my rifle now, It’d just be cool to find a purpose for the old rail, because otherwise I’ll just sell it. Plus, I like to tinker.

It’s the pic version. Mod 3 is lower profile, no storage, and unique mount, no-frills half price option.

I had to shim the Picatinny clips as well. 0.05" plastic on each side.

If there is interest, I can post a video of everything needed to do it after I break this thing in tomorrow.

Please.

I’d definitely like to see it!

Digging the ingenuity. I’ve got 3x URX3 that I might look to do this to. LEGIT.

Alright guys, I tore it down and walked though it. Its quite simple but you can see how its done here.

Warning - this was my first video - trying to explain things while you’re doing them is not easy - SUPER DRY/Choppy explanations (i added music to make it bearable).

That said - I think it shows everything. Any questions I can support the video with comments and pictures as needed. Hope this helps.

Edit: And I was shooting this thing at 50yds - much faster followups with the vfg than with the handstop. I’d guess around 50% faster, unfortunately my shot timer is a 5 hr drive away, so no hard data at this time… but its NICE! The angle makes it.

Edited video to reduce wash-out so you can see more detail.

THANKS! Thats awesome.
