How does this work?
Doesn’t a barrel length have to be registered on the lower?
Will this save me on some of the paperwork?
Take it easy on me please. I’m new to this NFA stuff.
My next build is going to be a SBR.
I’ve already decided on a BCM lower because they are a top notch company and are local.
The lowers already registered as a SBR is icing on the cake.
From what I gather, it will not save you on paperwork. You will have to submit a form 4 vice the form 1. And I believe the wait time for a form 4 is taking a bit longer than form 1. But it will save you from having to engrave your info on there, plus you get that BCM quality.
Have your dealer order it, they will handle all the required paper work on their end. It’s a tax free transfer to them. The form 3 will have the barrel length, caliber and over all length on it.
Then once it’s at your dealer, it will be transferred to you on a form 4 with all the required info on it. You then pay the $200 federal tax.
I’m gonna hit one of these uppers like it owed me money. Hells yeah!
We only have a few left so get them while you can!

i’ve got one of these ordered from grant, and from what i’m reading here, i will have to list the overall length, and barrell length when applying for the stamp. i’m PROBABLY gonna go with a 12.5’’ BCM upper, so, i guess i can measure a 16’’ BCM, with the stock collapsed,[???] and deduct 3 1/2’’ for overall???—what if i run up on a killer deal on say a LMT 10.5’‘upper, and now have listed a 12.5’'??? looks like i can put whatever length upper i want, as the lower is registered as NFA,yes???
I think you would have to have a 12.5" in your possession. Otherwise you would have to let the ATF know about the change.
From what I understand, it’s not a big deal to change it.
I hope someone with more knowledge chimes in here if I’m dead wrong. I don’t want to be that guy.

My BCM SBR lower came registered with a BBL length of 10.5" I have an LMT SBR 10 with that BBL on it but plan to put a BCM 11.5" BBL upper on the BCM Lower, it’s an inch longer do I need to notify ATF of my desire to use a BBL an inch longer?
When I spoke to ATF about a registered machinegun lower I wanted to find out about overall length. I was told, over the phone, the BBL length did not matter because it was a machine gun lower. Is it the same for the SBR? Thanks.
From what Ive gathered you need to send a letter to the ATF stating you will have a different barrel length. Wont be an issue as long as your “default” barrel length is the one on your Form 1/4. In other words just keep your 12.5" barrel handy.
