Based on reviews I’ve read here I decided to swap out the MOE grip that came with the Colt 6920 I bought the other year. I’m curiuos if anyone else has done this and had issues with the BCM mod 3 grip getting perfectly flush. The MOE leaves no gaps whatsoever between the grip and the receiver. The BCM grip has an extra area touching the trigger guard you can see in the pic and it seems to keep the grip from being flush. The gap is most noticable by the trigger, where there is enough of a gap I can actually see through there.
I like the feel of the grip, but I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this or if it has caused an issue? My concern with it being flush has less to do with cosmetics and more to do regarding sufficient pressure on the detent spring. My selector seems fine, but I don’t want a bad surprise when it counts.
Are both sides of the grip held in compression, or just the one? I can’t tell from the pic well enough. Both sides need to be held in compression with the retaining screw, if not, there’s an issue.
I can’t speak for a Colt, but I have used the BCM mod 3 grip on BCM, Seekins and Spikes lowers. On the Seekins I am currently running, there is a very slight gap, but light barely shows thru. The “lip” on the BCM grip may be making contact with the trigger guard, it does slightly on my Seekins. I have had no issues with the safety and have had this grip in use for over a year and 1000+ rounds.
I think that your problem is that the original MOE grip does not have the new BCM grip’s small extension tab that is supposed to fill the “gap” at the rear of the trigger guard. You have a Magpul winter trigger guard fitted which - if I remember correctly - is also designed to fill that same gap.
It would appear that both the new BCM grip and the existing Magpul trigger guard are trying to fill the same gap - resulting in the inability of the BCM grip to seat fully flush with the lower receiver.
You may need to trim off the small tab at the front of the BCM grip to fix the problem to your satisfaction.
The “gap” can be a major irritant to the second finger if you shoot a lot without gloves and Ergo has been making a $4 piece of rubber called “The Gapper” to fill that space for years.
both sides are held in well, I just don’t like seeing that kind of a gap. My paranoia may be unnecessary. I’m just used to pieces fitting better on my AR.
The lip on the BCM grip does seem to be the culprit. No idea why it is even necessary. I suppose a different trigger guard may solve the problem altogether.
This makes sense. I suppose i could try to trim the tab and see if that helps. Although I haven’t fired the weapon, the selector seems fine. I’ve played with it endlesses and everything seems good to go.
This is my only pimped out trigger guard. Every other one with a milspec guard the BCM grips fit just fine. Built in trigger guards might also run into the same problem, and BCM has the Mod 1 where you can swap that part out.
I too have a 6920 which came with the MOE grip. The MOE is a very nice grip & feels just fine in my hand but I couldn’t resist putting on one of the BCM offerings. I chose the MOD 2 because I liked how you could customize it, especially the front. I had put a Wilson trigger guard on to keep my finger blister free so I did not need the duckbill & didn’t care to dremel it off. This grip fits very snug all around my receiver without gaps like yours has. Because most aftermarket grips seem to be so effen tight for me I generally like to carefully tap it into place with a rubber mallet before doing the screw, all the while being careful with the selector spring & detent.
Mine look fine, and their description says it works with duckbilled grips. The guard is flat at the bottom towards the rear, like a standard guard, allowing their grip to fit.
