Jesus I thought I was done buying AR shit. I really like my DD S2W 16" barrel but I don’t know if they still make them. It’s actually one of the most accurate AR barrels I’ve used. I hope the BCM version is just as good and the fluting is a nice feature too.
I’ve got one on the way. Its gonna get put thru its paces May 12-14 at a Haley Strategic D5 Carbine course that I’m hosting.
A 16" version would be tits IMO. The 14.5 comes in at 26oz. I would guess a 16" version would come in at 27-28oz.

I have a 14.5 ELW fluted. And once that barrel gets shot out I may switch it to this. I considered running a medium down the road.
Same here, I’ve been wanting to do a light weight build for a while now and this seems perfect.
Their website says its the same weight as a standard profile profile 14.5. Is the diameter past the gas block the same as their lw barrels with the rest of the weight towards the chamber? I was hoping more for a regular profile under the handguards and a medium taper from the gas block to the muzzle
Not much room on a 14.5 middy ahead of the GB journal to do a taper. Looks like straight .625 ahead of the block in the pictures.
It’s the type of profile that manufacturers should have been making years ago.
I take it, it is similar to the N4 profile offered by Noveske? I haven’t looked up this new barrel, but if it is, count me in.
Not impressed with the offering. I feel this doesn’t do much over a ELW or even just a standard govt profile 14.5 that’s been fluted. Think what everyone wants is a BFH barrel with the taper profile.

I have two of the ELW-f 14.5" barrels mated with 13" KMR rails. They are perfect for my needs, which is a light weight carbine used predominately within 50 yds. One gun is used for work, (Patrol Rifle as a inter-city LEO) and the other is left home with the wife to assist with any issues that may arise at home.
I also got the email about the enhanced mid weight flutter barrel. For my needs in the above mentioned two guns, this new barrel brings nothing to the table that I don’t already have with the ELW-f barrels.
But my next project in mind is a 16" REECE type of gun, with a 1x6 optic on it. I would be all over this new mid weight barrel for this project if it were in 16", and CHF. Hopefully they will add onto the concept in time.
Exactly. I think by them not offering a BFH or the barrel in a longer length, they dropped the ball. Many other including myself are looking for BFH ELW to hit the shelves. I don’t care for this one. As for me personally, it doesn’t do anything that their other offerings don’t bring to the table.
Glad this was an easy choice for me this time. 
While I’m a huge BCM fan I personally feel they are dropping the ball in not bringing a BFH option to these new profiles. They just don’t seem interested in filling that gap in the market. I wonder why a company like DD hasn’t stepped up with an option to do this yet. They have their own hammer forge and could really take a chunk out of BCM sales by offering a CHF barrel in a fluted taper profile. I know they have their S2W line, but it seems limited to the 18" barrels. DD… are you listening???
Got an email back from them a couple of weeks ago in which they stated the BFH ELW barrels are in the process of being made and said mid to late summer…eventually they’ll get here.
I’ve been looking for a barrel that will give increased performance when shooting M193 at a 50 yard target with my red dot. Perhaps this is what I’ve been searching for all along.
