I have a bcm recce 16 that I want to send off to rainier arms to get the gas block pinned but before I do I had a question. Will this have any negative effects on the rifle reliability or any negative effects in general? I know daniel defense pins theirs so would it be the same deal getting the bcm pinned?
Have you had any issues with the GB walking on the BCM?
Never with the gas block when it came from the bcm factory. Whatever they use is tough stuff however after switching out the rail and reapplying red loctite I have had a few issues.
I sent my BCM BFH ELW upper to Adco and had it pinned.
EDIT: not that it needed it, I have another BCM with an unpinned gas block that I’ve not had any problems with. Just wanted it for my uber-grab-and-go-SHTF gun, that’s all.
I’ve only had a sample of three, but zero issues with BCM barrels with set screws. I don’t recall ever hearing of a BCM gas block coming loose in real life or on the net.
Yeah I have never had an issue with mine that are done at the factory but ever since I switched to a geissele rail and re did the gas block it has backed out twice.
I get it. No, I doubt you will see a difference if you get it pinned. My pinned D.D. gas block is one of the most accurate chrome lined carbines I have shot.
On a side note, did you use new knurled set screws and lots of red loctite when you assembled yours?
You’re doing something wrong. Most likely, you are not cleaning the screws and using the correct screw. BCM doesn’t do anything magical. They are using Loctite 271, with clean screws and block and a specific screw which is included with the block.
Does BCM use Loctite Primer? A Loctite info sheet I saw said to use Loctite Primer for 271 and “inactive metals”. I’m thinking this includes the BCM gas block (stainless steel?) I’m about to install. But I’ve never used a primer for Loctite nor have I heard of anybody using it.
