BCM 16" Lightweight Upper

There’s talk on TOS that BCM is working on a 16" A3 lightweight upper. Can anyone confirm this and is there an estimated availability date?

Yes, Middy Lightweight 16".
In the works right now.

Will these have standard or BFH barrels?

Standard, 11595E Steel, button rifled, 1/7 twist, chrome lined, M4 ramps. HPT, MPI

Thanks!

Sounds perfect! Now for the wait!

Lightweight? Excellent. A quality lightweight offering with a railed receiver will be welcome.

Mid-length gas…meh. Any plans for standard carbine length?

I’d like to see a true lightweight middy… .580 barrel dia? .620 front sight assembly?

I’m for a couple middies in 16" and one or two 14.7"

AWESOME!

.625" OD?

Who wants to buy an A2 profile BCM middy?! slightly used.

Exactly what I am looking for! Any idea on ETA? Thanks.

Thanks alot, Paul. Now I need to talk myself out of buying one of these. :frowning:

How much of a weight difference are we looking at between this and the current A2 midlength?

Swoooosh POP!
Swoooosh POP!

That’s the sound of me practicing quick-draws of my wallet / credit card.

I feel like a kid at Christmas!!!

You’re killing me!

Mike

Similar to a A1 type barrel.
Under handguards .675 to .610
Forward the front sight .575
But .750 under the FSB

Any chance on a 20" A3 lightweight upper?

I mean this in the most manly, non-homophobe way possible…I love you Paul!!! I have a new patrol rifle upper to purchase!!

Any chance of a .625" FSB

Sorry, but no plans at this time.

A couple reasons;
We would have to have special made small qtys F-FSB in .625.
We would have to completly modify our current FSB drilling fixtures.
More limited in the types of gas blocks set ups we could use.

wow,
this thread just made my day

So you embrace the gayness? :stuck_out_tongue:

JK

From a user standpoint, this is a good thing. On the one hand I would prefer the .625", but on the other I think from an end-user view having the .750 is better. Overall it’s not going to make a real difference in the weight of the barrel.

I’ll be interested to see an apples:apples weight comparison with the new one BCM barrels and a 6520 barrel. Ideally I’ll weigh all the parts to include longer gas tube and handguards.

On a true super-lightweight build the carbine handguard would still be the way to go, but I’ve come to like my mid-length BCM so much that having the skinny barrel would be about the only way I can think to improve the upper.
