Can’t figure out what I want. I’ve owned a 14.5" LW Middy before and sold it during the panic. I’ve never owned a Colt M4 Carbine that didn’t have 3 round burst on it.
I guess the issue here is pricing:
The BCM Lower from Grant and the Upper from BC USA (with perm attached BC comp) is $1300
The complete Colt from Grant is $1080.
Prices do not include shipping or FFL fees.
I don’t have any non-NFA rifles right now and I desperately need one that I can take out of state to classes. I like the longer length of the midlength handguards but I’ve never owned a Colt and I feel that’s a staple of the AR15 collection.
I know this has been beaten to death, but I just had to make a thread asking if there are any differences that I’m not seeing in order to make a more informed decision.
This will be used for training classes with a T1 mounted on top. I will probably not suppress it.
Possibly get the Colt and add a Centuion C4 12" FSB rail for longer length? Would cost you about $80 +/- a few bucks than buying the Midlength. Added benefit of not having to deal with pinned muzzle device as well.
As a recent purchaser of a 6920 and a long time BCM owner, you will definately not be disappointed either. One reason that I’ve stayed with carbine length is that there seem to be a lot more options when it comes to rails, and I’ve heard tons of good things about the Centurion 12" carbine cut out rails. I have a buddy who had the regular Centurion 12" with a low pro gas block, and they were very nice. If overall weight isn’t an issue for you the Colt w/Centurion would be a really nice set up, but will be more front heavy than a LW middy (depending on rails/handguards). The nice this is that either way you’ll be getting yourself an awesome gun…my .02 is go Colt, especially since you haven’t owned one.
I am personally not fond of permanently attached muzzle devices as they prevent you from being able to easily reconfigure the rifle. I personally would go with the Colt LE6920 and add either a DD RIS II FSP rail or a Centurion Arms 12’ FSP rail. Besides, the money you save from buying the Colt can be put towards one of the above rails.
If you don’t mind my asking, was it reliable with mil-spec ammunition, i.e. M855 or other 5.56mm pressure stuff? FWIW I don’t consider it unreliable if it won’t work with cheap-ass Wolf, Silver Bear, and other sorry ammo.
Thanks for the suggestions, I think I will just grab the 6920 and add a Centurion rail later on. I’ve always wanted a Colt - I’ve had at least 5 or 6 BCMs. I’ll always feel I’m neglecting my wants if I ignore the Colt any longer.
Two great choices, and sounds like you made the right one for you. This is one of the rare times when “Get the Colt” isn’t automatically the right answer, though!
Yes I too own BCMs and have an overwhelming need to buy a Colt. I doubt a Colt will do anything my BCMs won’t do, but I just really really want a 6920. I think its my need to exercise my god given right to own a gun, or fifty! But seriously, with the stock market setting new highs everyday, I’m thinking about buying a 6920 or two as an investment and waiting for the Hillary election (god forbid) of 2016.
