BCM 14.5 in Mid-Length (ammo/buffer question)

I’ve been looking all over M4 and other forums on the internet to try and find answers, but concrete answers seem to be elusive. I was going to do another A4 clone but instead I’ve planning on buying the BCM 14.5 BFH upper and pairing it with a BCM lower from GandR that comes with an H buffer. I’m wondering if this set up will be reliable when shooting wolf gold, xm193, m855 etc. I probably won’t run much steel if any through it at all. Also, will this be a good representation of the mid lengths reputation (soft shooting, reliable, etc)?

Knowing BCM’s quality it will most likely fall apart in your hands when firing the first rounds…

BCM’s EAG carbine is a 14.5 mid-length with an H buffer, and a quick search here will reflect that the H/14.5 works great.

You’ll love that setup.

H buffer and Wolf ammo work just fine in my BCM 14.5" middy. Test yours to confirm, but you should be gtg.

I have the same combination and it works great.

My 14.5 ELW needs a carbine buffer to run Wolf or Tula. Even some weaker brass .223 won’t lock back on the last round if I use an H. Could be a combination of using only flash hiders, too. If you have a brake or compensator you’ll have a little more backpressure.

Bingo. With a device muzzle device that creates lot of back pressure, like a battle comp, you could run an H3 with a sprinco blue.

Mine runs great with Wolf Gold, Prvi M193, and PMC M855 and an H2.

I don’t know anything about Russian 5.56 or Springco springys though.

My 14.5 middy has an H in it and has eaten everything I’ve fed it thus far. I don’t shoot steel case ammo as a rule though so take it FWIW…

Yes, it’s not a BCM but my DD 14.5 w/ Battle Comp, Sprinco blue spring and H buffer eats any steel or brass I feed it.

All I run are the BCM 14.5 Heavy Barrels and I dont get crazy with buffer variants even tho I have an H, H2, and BufferTech Hydrolic Buffer and they all eat everything I put thru them. And the recoil is less then my work gun (standard Army M4)

Don’t over complicate things if it’s your first dive into the AR world

Similar answer - BCM ELWF and BHF 14.5’s, and a BCM 11.5", run H2’s and Springco Blue in all. Have a pistol lower also with H and JP Tuned as well, all eat anything brass. Don’t shoot Wolf/Tulla/etc, though.

I’ve had a standard 14.5 BCM midlength for about 5 years. H2 buffer, I’ve run PMC, Wolf, Tula, and about every m193, m855 around, it eats up it all without a problem.

I’m considering a 14.5 Mid length BCM upper with A2 flash hider mated to a lower with H buffer and ordinary carbine spring. Does anyone here have feedback on reliability of this configuration specifically with US made .223, particularly Federal?

BCM 14.5" mid with VLTOR A5 here. Eats M193 all day long. Don’t run shitty ammo so can’t comment about that.

I had a factory BCM 14.5" w/ mid length gas system that wouldn’t lock back on last round with factory Federal .223 loads. No issues with 5.56. It came with an H buffer. I even sent it back to BSM (good guys) that trouble shoot it. I was told there was nothing wrong with it, and that I needed to use higher pressure ammo. I swapped for a carbine buffer whenever I used .223 (law enforcement rounds).

A few years, and a few thousand rounds, fast forward… the rifle currently uses a Spikes T2 buffer with blue Sprinco buffer spring… it eats anything brass and Hornady “training” steel caed. Go figure.

I would have a rifle slightly under gassed and play with buffers/springs, rather than over gassed.
