BCM 11.5 plus M4 2000 problem

I have a very similar set up and I use the Geissele SSA. Works 100%. FYI- same upper, same can and initially was using an H3 until I went to the A5.

I was actually hoping you would chime in. Do you have any suggestions for a fix? You said yours worked with an H3, but do you think a different buffer or even an A5 would help? I know it’s hard to diagnose a problem without actually having the rifle in your hands.

Thank you

Update: I just shot an email to Geissele about my problem. They said that the 3G’s could bump fire and short stroke. I’ve learned about the bump firing when I first got the trigger and put the time into getting over that. Still love the trigger. I suspect that the suppressor just aggravated the situation.

The point is, they said they would mail me a gold trigger spring as soon as I sent them my address. How could the customer service be better from Geissele, or some of the other “go to” companies we talk about on here? I wish some of the other industries out there were the same.

I can understand bump firing being the issue, just like bolt bounce in a full auto or the hammer following the bolt and carrier into battery. I can also understand the hammer being reset with such force that it bounces off the disconnector. I do not believe the hammer can “outrun” the disconnector because the disconnector moves into the “catch” position as the sear releases the hammer.

Your second sentence is what i was trying to describe. Thanks for helping me clarify.

No problems here, AAC SPR-M4 on the 11.5, and it did take awhile to stop the bump firing LOL.

Spikes H3 and Tubb flatspring, BCM FA carrier running better than the original Colt FWIW. Was eating firing pin retaining pins…

Makes me think the barrels are a little over gassed, mine has a logged 3,470 rounds through it now.

This problem only shows itself with the sd3g and s3g triggers.

OK, I just had an opportunity to run a couple of mags thru the SBR suppressed, with the sd3g trigger and the heavier spring.

The verdict is… this solves the problem. (mostly) I had no “dead trigger” issues at all during normal and rapid fire. I WAS able to create a “dead trigger” once, by intentionally bump firing. I know, I know… bump firing is for booger eaters, but this lends credence to Todd’s thought that we were unintentionally bumpfiring originally in order to cause the problem in the first place.

FWIW, when I realized last year that the sd3g with original spring caused a problem, I switched out to a Chip McCormick flat trigger. It has a VERY similar feel to the sd3g, but does not cause this problem.

Good to go. That makes me feel better that a spring change will cure the problem. Just waiting on one to arrive now

Update: I got the heavier spring from Geissiele and tried it out today. Se set up, same ammo. The new spring helped but did not solve the problem. Still getting a dead trigger on a loaded chamber 20 to 30 percent of the time.

Any suggestions? Different buffer? A5? Different trigger? Witch doctor?

As I said, I could still duplicate the problem with the heavier spring when I intentionally bumpfired. This leads me to believe that you are getting an extra trigger pull off under recoil which is causing the hammer to ride forward before the bolt is in battery.

The solution for me (as I have said before) was to switch out to another trigger that I like in the SBR that I run primarily suppressed.

I run a H2 buffer in a standard receiver extension, but while I was trying to trouble shoot this I used various weights to no avail. Will the A5 solve the problem? I don’t know, but I know that getting away from those triggers will solve it. Believe me, I know how frustrating it is to lay out the money and not be able to use it. I have a total of 8 Geissele triggers. Out of those, 2 are SD3G and 1 is a S3G. I still have them in rifles… just not SBRs that are run suppressed.

Yeah, I know your solution is the way to go. You’re right that it is frustrating but a non-reliable firearm is worthless to me. I’m going to stop frigging around and change triggers instead of adding stuff that probably won’t work.

One thing I can tell you. The SSA works perfectly fine and I use it on my SBR lower.

That’s the trigger I’m going to go with then. I’ve read a great deal of good thing about that one on here. I wished I’d gotten the SSA in the first place but I chose the 3G because I’m not used to a two stage. I rekon I will be soon!
