BCG smithing?

New to swapping internals so I’m sure this is a stupid question but is there any sizing required when replacing a bolt carrier group? What I mean is, if I have a piston gun and want to switch for a different bolt carrier group which is still for a piston gun (obviously) do I need to do any type of sizing modifications to keep the accuracy of the factory bolt or is that solely dependent on the barrel?

No sizing needed. Just put the original bolt in the new carrier and drive on. However, with a piston gun, you do need to make sure the carrier you get is proprietary to the manufacturer of the original piston carrier–piston systems vary from maker to maker unlike DI, which is fairly standardized.

Why would you need to change out the carrier?

Gotcha so if I have a POF but want to put an LWRC bgc in it for the nickel boron finish then it wouldn’t be a good idea because they are proprietary?

Probably a bad idea.
Why not send the existing carrier to get the coating?

I might just do that. I am also sure the POF BCG will last forever I just enjoy the ease of cleaning the nickel boron products.
