BCG question

I was with my gunsmith today and when he checked out my LMT BCG, he pointed out that the bolt had the “ridge” opposite the extractor shaved down smaller so that only 6 of them have pressure. He said it prevents wear and is more balanced and may improve performance. He did not make a big deal about but said it was a superior approach.

The LMT he viewed was a high end BCG with Stainless Bolt. The BCG that came with my LMT defender, was not shaved down and my Colt BCG was not as well.

Again, Let my try to explain, I am talking about the “teeth” or very end of bolt that sticks out. The 6 or 7 ridges on it.

Any opinions on this? Anyone heard of this ?

I’m sure ArmaLite knows exactly what they are doing, and for them, this relieved lug is all part of the bolt manufacturing process.

You might want to proceed with caution and give second thought to letting someone attempt to modify a standard bolt.

Agreed… to each his own, but I wouldn’t do it.

I’m guessing you’re talking about the LMT Enhanced Bolt. The lug opposite of the extractor is modified to “balance” the bolt design.

Yes, this is the bad boy I have. Proof positive one more time, you get what you pay for.
“Good things are seldom and cheap things are seldom good”. That LMT bolt is quality.
