BCE 1.5 testing update

We’ve completed range testing on the 1.5. The results were extremely positive. Muzzle rise control is identical to the 1.0 and flash signature is very similar.
We did notice a rather unexpected flash artifact at the muzzle. I had anticipated a more conical forward gas stream which we did see. The interesting thing is that a faint ring forms, similar to a light smoke ring. It doesn’t effect sight picture or night vision but was quite a surprise. It gives low light firing a rather etherial feel; the last thing your adversary will see is a faint halo. Somehow quite fitting!
We tested a few iterations of the 1.5 and found that a few thousandths of clearance changes can completely alter the performance of the device negatively.
We also tested the 1.0 with a Gen 1+ NVD to evaluate the performance while using a night vision device. There was a slight brightening of the sight picture but the target was clearly visible at all times and recovery was immediate. No major blooming evident. Gen 1 devices are a “worst case” scenario as the technology is somewhat primitive. Gen 2 and higher should be much less effected so I can say with comfort that we are NVD compatible.
Overall, the testing proved out what we needed to know and we will be releasing the device for production on Monday. We anticipate a 3-4 week lead time before the first production units are ready for delivery. Thanks for everyone’s input during the design cycle. It was very helpful and appreciated. We hope that you will enjoy the 1.5 as much as the original 1.0.
Cheers,
Marty

I would love to see a video or pic of this halo. I think I get it, but I am fascinated by your description. Excellent use of language!

You’re right; Marty has a beautiful way with words, unusual for a gear-head techno dude. It’s one of the many reasons we love him so much…

From the tactical side, there isn’t too much more to add to Marty’s report. Side concussion with the 1.5 is not increased over the 1.0, muzzle rise is equally well-controlled, and the faint fire ring or halo produced by the 1.5, which we only saw when firing in total darkness, was not the least bit detrimental to rapid shot-to-shot receovery or target aquisition with the Gen 1+ night vision scope.

Of course, nobody would be shooting at anything in total darkness unless using NV optics in the first place, so this is really a non-issue. And the halo does look pretty cool…There will be a video soon!

The extended hood and crenallations adds the utility of a standoff/wire cutting function to the BattleComp 1.5, and all those of you with 14.5" barrels needing to exceed 16" with a permanently affixed compensator are going to be happy you waited for this. Thanks for your patience!

Nick

Can’t wait for the 1.5s! BTW, just mounted the 1.0 you guys sent me for testing - should get out to the range middle of this week or early next week.

Excellent! We are very anxious to hear what you think. (Hey, I want one of those para-cord bracelets!)

Let me know what colors you want and your wrist size and I’ll make one for you. If you PM me your email addy - I’ll send you wrist measuring instructions and tell you what colors we stock.

Is there an update on the availability of the 1.5?

Yes, we are expecting them to be ready for shipment in less than 4 weeks. Send me an e-mail and I’ll put you on the 1.5 notification list when they’re ready!
Thanks, Nick

Glad to hear all went well!!! Looking forward to the mass of range reports that we will be seeing in a month when people get their hands on the BC 1.5

Hope full production goes smoothly!

Excellent!

Any plans to post some vids? I know, first I wanted teaser pics, now I’m asking for vids, what am I going to want next? Other than a 1.5, not much. :dirol:

Just curious -

What is the current status of the Gemtech Halo compatibility question? If I recall correctly, the BattleComp is a bit smaller as compared to the A2 specs the Halo needs. Any chance of this changing in the future?

thanks.

ETA: I see my question was just answered in another thread. Looks like a compatible version is in the works. thanks!

We are in the process of developing the Halo compatible 1.0 as we speak. We will update everyone as soon as we get a prototype in hand. Thanks!
Marty

We are developing suppressor-compatible versions as we speak.

We will likely develop TWO prototypes for testing – one for the HALO, and one for bi-lock systems.

Our best guess is we should be ready by mid-Winter at the latest.

FWIW, we know the BattleComp WORKS with the HALO – we just cannot recommend it or warranty either product, as the exterior diameter of the BattleComp is .850, and the interior of the HALO is .862 – which “could” create droop, should the HALO get loose.

Of course, loose suppressors are bad juju regardless.

Thank you for your interest,
Alan
