About to start a build and am going to use the BRDE dimple jig to dimple my Rainier SS bbl for the VLTOR gas block and was wondering what type of drill bit is needed? I know I need an 11/64 just wasn’t sure if any specific type of bit would need to be used.

Not sure what the exact answer to this is right now but I do know BRDE states it on his site, or some instructional article on this particular jig. You might want to look it up on google.

Vltor Gas Block Installation and Pinning
Barrel Dimpling and Gas Block Installation
Tools:
• Vltor Low-Pro Gas Block
• BRDE Jig
• 11/64" (4.3mm) Drill Bit
• Loctite 272 / Rocksett
Procedure:
• Mount barrel onto Jig, Drill to start, Move jig to expose initial dimples and re-secure to hold barrel.
• Drill to size of Outer Diameter of 11/64" bit and depth of drill bit tip MAX.
• Install Gas Block and torque per MFG recommendation.
Gas Block Pinning
Tools:
• BRDE Vltor Pinning Jig
• #31 (0.120" / 3mm) Drill Bit
• 2/0 Taper Pin Reamer
• 2/0 Taper Pin ¾” Long
Procedure:
• Mount Jig onto installed Gas Block, secure and drill through Left to Right. Clean off chips and remove jig.
• Secure barrel and ream slowly from Right to Left. Test taper pin repeatedly to prevent over reaming.
• Stop at 1/16" (1.5875mm) from taper pin’s dead center to ensure proper centering upon final press fit.
Thanks Crocs. I had found the steps and such and am confident I can do it. Mostly I was concerned with type of bit say black oxide vs. a titanium nitride coated one. While I am confident I have the skills to perform the task I just wanted to clarify before I started to drill with a bit that was less apt to function properly for the job.

Your basic HSS bit should work fine unless you have a nitrided barrel, in which case, IIRC, a carbide bit is needed.
