Battle Comp 1.0 Review

After a month of reviewing the available muzzle brakes and compensators out there, I settled on the BC1.0 for my 11.5in BCM.

After running various Flash Hiders(A2, AAC Blackout, Noveske Pig) and a Surefire MB556K on it, the Battle Comp 1.0 TRUMPS all Ive tried for both Recoil Reduction and Noise.

The claims of improved recoil reduction are true. The MB55K while it did cut recoil, it didnt nearly as much as the BC 1.0, this thing is top notch. Now I know I’ve only tried 1 other Brake, the recoil IMO is damn near like shooting a 22 Mag. The only thing that has less recoil than my 11.5 with BC 1.0 is my 11.5 with 22lr kit…

Flash Hiding is key if you use your rifle for anything other than a range toy. My 11.5 BCM rifle is my Home Defense/SHTF rifle. It is my go to gun. I need flash hiding capability for these roles(so I dont blind my self), and the A2 was doing the job, but Recoil was making follow up shots more difficult. I occasionally shoot this Rifle out to 200-300 yards, mostly just for fun at the range, but I have the distance at home to shoot that far if need be, so I wanted something with better recoil control.

After trying the MB556K, the noise factor was just way outta control on that short of a weapon. Enter the Battle Comp 1.0. As soon as I had this Comp attached, I decided to do a test run. Only 20 rounds, as I didnt have the loctite set yet. I put my upper on one of the Sheriff Dept M4 lowers(full auto), being that my dad is Sheriff, he was interested in possibly putting some on their 14.5in carbines.

20rds, Full Auto. Wow, this thing barely moved, not to mention, noise factor was reduced greatly, AND flash hiding was similar to my A2 flash hider.

The other officers that were present were VERY impressed. Over the next few days, we’ve only put 100rds thru my upper with the BC 1.0 attached on the Dept Full Auto lowers, but everyone who shoots it, even the 1 female officer we have(who is VERY TINY, 130lbs WITH all her duty gear and vest on), had no problems controlling this gun in Full Auto.

If I can get some video of the Full Auto shoot I will, other wise Im gonna take some video at home of just Semi Auto. Some in daylight for easy viewing, and some at dusk and maybe dark just to show flash hiding capability.

Thats all I got for now, Ill update as I get more info

At the Atlanta, Indiana Multigun match 9.12.10, the farthest distance is 30yards there, so most people just use Carbines. I ran my Battle Comp 1.0’d 11.5in BCM SBR. Ended up 6th outta 40. Not bad for my 3rd Multigun ever I dont think.

What kind of buffer, etc. are you running in your 11.5, just curious to see what kind of overall setup it was. Thanks for the write up.

Hey Jon,
Thanks for the awesome review. Like the Chief in Little Big Man said, “This causes my heart to soar like a hawk” (OK, so I’m OLD, alright?) Your dad will know what I’m talking about.
Thanks again,
Nick

Nick, no problem man. Im gonna try to get some video and pictures up soon.

Excellent evaluation and comparison Jon. My only experience with other comps is getting blasted by a few during carbine courses so I wasn’t overly impressed with the side blasts and concussion. The Battle Comp is my first and I’m overwhelmed by it’s performance. I didn’t think I really need to have a comp on an AR since the muzzle rise never really concerned me, but after shooting one with a Battle Comp, I will be out fitting the rest of my AR’s with them.

Thanks, nice review. Hope that other owners of th BC will do the same.

Im planning on some Range time tonight. I wanna run some drills so hopfully I can. When I do get some range time, Ill take some video and some pictures.

I may even con my little sister in to doing the photography as she is the Marketing/Communications Specialist for the YMAC in Fort Wayne, IN. Has a degree in Journalism(Focus on Photography) and a Degree in Marketing from Ball State University in Indiana. But, even though she’s a college grad and 24… she’s still a brat, lol.

Heres some video, dont mind my ugly mug or retarded rambling

Thanks, I found those videos very useful.

other than my mindless rambling, hahaha

Seems like you’ve shot it enough to clean it, any issues there?

none, but I use Break Cleaner to do the majority of my cleaning. It works really good on this comp as it just blasts everything out.

Stickman took some pics of the BattleComp 1.0 – and he makes everything look AWESOME:

A perfect album cover:

Caught the flash in the cage at the just the right time:

And just after use:

Thanks, Stick! We look forward to the reviews on WEVO and Military Times.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

Best,
Alan

Nice review jw. The videos were impressive.

Nice review. I have one waiting at home for my 16 LMT SOPMOD Defender. Looking to shoot this week sometime.

Whats the best way to clean the BC 1.0?
Spray with brake free and blow it out? How many rounds before cleaning? Do any of you feel they are more of a pain than they are worth cleaning?

Should I use Brake Free to clean my muzzle break, or should I brake out the break cleaner?

FWIW, BCs have a fairly open design, so they don’t build up carbon very quickly. We have some BCs in use with well over 2,500 rounds through them with only their exteriors being wiped down with Slip Carbon Cutter.

Break Free CLP is a jack-of-all-trades, master of none kind of product. It isn’t very good at cleaning, lubing or protecting. I use Slip 725 and Carbon Cutter for my AR-15 cleaning needs at home and MPro 7 at work. A simple spray and wipe down takes most of the carbon off.

Putting CLP on the BC could cause it to bake the carbon on during firing, depending on the lube. Your BC is tough and machined from a rust-resistant alloy.

I am NOT anal about cleaning my weapons, however. My rifle has about four different colors of paint streaks from bumping into trim going through doorways. My BC is the cleanest part of my rifle because it is the newest part. After I get through with my November Magpul class it will be dirty and scratched and will match the rest of the rifle.

If you are going to use brake cleaner, please use non-chlorinated stuff and proper eye and glove protection. I prefer to damage my liver the old-fashioned way with distilled spirits!

Happy Labor Day and have fun shooting your BC!

Hey Jon,
Great videos. I showed my wife and she said, “That’s the same kind of rifle you shoot?” I told her it was and she said “It didn’t even move.”
My WIFE noticed the difference and she don’t shoot, just watches.
I guess they’re on to something.
Next paycheck…

I subscribe to Evil Pat’s philosophy (after all, he works for me and he built my M4…all those armorers classes I sent him to should pay off somehow!) I think my poor gun (the one in the videos on our website, on the home page and the one-hand full-auto clip) has at least 2,500 rounds through the BC just on FA alone! Never cleaned the comp yet. Can’t really see any build-up on the inside.
