Battle Belt reccomendations

Hey everyone,

After reading several threads and looking through the whole belt thread, I didn’t notice anything in particular which addressed us husky gentleman.

Considering everyone here has there act together and is, in my eyes at least, squared away gear wise I wanted to pose a question:

Being a bigger guy, roughly a size 40 waist, I want to run a battle belt but not have to run a set of suspenders. Does anyone have any recommendations on either a way to keep them up or a setup to run that wont droop or sag?

I am looking at carrying the following:

3 x M4 Mags
2 x 9mm Mags
1 x Dump Pouch
1 x Med/IFAK kit
1 x Gerber Prodigy
1 x M&P 9mm with holster

My thoughts were potentially running an ATS warbelt and adding heavy duty velcro to both my daily riggers belt and to the ATS warbelt, but I have my doubts.

If anyone has any advice or pointers they could share I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks Everyone,
-Randy

depends on whether your hips are bigger or smaller than your waist - if it’s the latter, then the belt won’t have much to keep it from sagging/slipping down.
typically, the padded battle belts are designed to be worn a little lower just like backpack hip belts - centered on your iliac crests (hips bones), not around your waist like a pants belt, so it might not help having velcro put on one.

MilitaryMoron,

Thank you for your input, that makes a lot of sense to me.

Hmmm i guess the question now is how do I set up to my preference without having to sacrifice too much comfort wise.

Suspenders are a necessity on heavily loaded belts IMO

I am a bit “husky” too, and I run the ATS warbelt. I got two TACO pouches with 2x FAL mags and 2x G17 mags, my G17 and a dump pouch. Essentailly the same setup you want to run. The belt stays up fine, but I keep it higher up above my regular belt. My only recomendation is to get a belt with a more secure buckle as the warbelt liner I run will sometimes bump the other belt and almost unbuckle on the lower end.

I suffer from noassatall, and this doesn’t help keep a belt up.
But the grippy Neoprene Used in our Belt does.
I still wear suspenders to help spread the load around…
Plus I’m a Big Boy…

Weather called for Warm, so I planned on Shorts. Turned out to be cold so I threw on some High socks. lol
Don’t judge the tactical white socks…

The Rig…

The Platform:
HSGI Sure-Grip Padded Belt (Fat Boy Size)
HSGI Cobra Riggers Belt (Fat Boy Size)
HSGI High Speed Low Drag Suspenders

Pouches From Left To Right:
3x HSGI Pistol TACO’s
1x HSGI Modular Pistol Magazine Pouch (Holds Surefire G2)
1x HSGI Bleeder/Blowout Pouch
1x G-Code OSH RTI Holster Mounted on G-Code RTI MOLLE Adapter
2x HSGI TACO’s

Thanks for the heads up 686, any recs on inner belt? my original plan was just to get the war belt and the ats inner belt for it as well

Sponjah, thanks for the rec and explanation! Ill look into it, any chance you could whip up a college student discount? LOL

I have a hard time believing you read the existing thread, otherwise you would have known about these. No reason to make up a velcro hodgepode when a purpose-designed solution with that system already exists.

? Are you right handed but shoot your carbine left handed?
If so how do you like your AR mags in front of your pistol?

Here is a ATS warbelt with a BFG inner belt. It worked well. I did not keep my pistol pouches there but it gives you some ideas.

I just had 1 20 round mag and 2 pistol mags for the M9 on mine.

You found NO references to our Larger Than Life shooters and their belt configurations? Really?

…in a 33-page thread about nothing BUT belts (that I just got through re-reading, hence the question), or any of the other belt threads out there?
