Battery Corrosion

I have been researching my options to equip my rifle with a good set of optics. After reading the great posts about optics and taking friendly advise from my co-workers, I have narrowed my choice to an Aimpoint. I have noticed the long battery life of the Aimpoints and it occurred to me that a battery left alone for that period of time would most likely corrode, leaving your cherished optic a messy paperweight. How do you deal with corrosion? Is there a difference in dealing with an Alkaline battery as opposed to a Lithium?

Use lithiums exclusively. They’re lighter (less battering of the battery contacts), function better in low temps, last longer and are less prone to leakage (I’ve yet to experience a leaking lithium).

If you’re worried, you can turn it on once in awhile, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
