Good morning,
Kevin here from Milwaukee Community Outreach Partners, a.k.a. Milwaukee COPS.
Chad and I met at one of Pat’s classes a couple years ago at Dane County, and we partnered up together in the Shoothouse class in 2012. Tons of conversations since then have led to this venture, and I’m really looking forward to it. Said conversations have also led to a whole new level of respect for Scotch, beer, and my rural brothers-in-multicam. (You gotta wait how long for back up???)
A little bit about me…
When teaching and posting here, I try to be a little funny, I think we all learn better when we’re relaxed and laughing. However, when it comes to safety and specifically deadly force things, the funny-man syndrome stops.
I realize that my training and experience pales in comparison to many people here. For those of you on this board that have had the patience to train me, repeatedly in some instances, thank you. For swearing at me, clocking me in the back of the head with a notebook, not kicking me out of class, etc…
I started my company near the end of 2010, and have been teaching range classes in the spring-summer-fall at Racine County, and Wisconsin CCW classes at various venues, over the winter ever since.
In a nutshell, my experience is 18 years on the street, 5 1/2 as a copper and the last 12+ as a sergeant, in a big-city PD. In that time, I’ve been involved in the investigation of about 12 - 18 officer involved shootings; and several more instances where serious injury was incurred by both police officers and citizens. I’ve been the supervisor in charge of investigating more police use-of-force incidents than I can remember. I’ve been involved in the investigation of hundreds of non-fatal shootings; and I’ve been involved in the investigation of dozens, perhaps in the low- to-mid-hundreds of homicides, doubles, triples, and even a quadruple homicide. I was an Anti-Gang Sergeant full time for a year; and as an additional duty to patrol, a Community Prosecution Unit Sergeant about five years, and an FTO Sergeant over five years. I’ve been an adjunct instructor and adjunct armorer for my PD since '06. When I say on the street, I mean on the street, in busy districts of a big-city PD, not sitting behind a desk doing admin weenie things.
I started shooting USPSA before I got on the job. I shoot mostly local matches but I have been to the nationals and the Florida Open as well as a bunch of Area matches. From '03 - '10 I was heavily involved in running a local USPSA club, and I still help out at a couple of them. I started reloading in about 93, and although I’ve loaded everything from 9mm up to and including 338 Win Mag, the last couple years it’s been limited to 40’s and 556.
Formal education, in a nutshell…about 10-12 USPSA based classes with GM’s like Ted Puente, Manny Bragg and Frank Garcia, including Ted and Manny’s Correcting the Problem Shooter, 4 or 5 classes with Pat and EAG, and a couple with Max Joseph and TFTT. A few more classes with local guys. Several armorer classes, and a couple emergency medical classes.
Admittedly, I’m new to this and I have a lot to learn, but it’s been well worth it so far. Frankly, our basic class may be very basic for most members here, but may be just right for those significant others, frineds, family, etc… that don’t like taking instruction from you. (I have one of those significant others…)
RCLRC members get these classes at half price.
If you guys would spread the word, Chad and I would really appreciate it. If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to give Chad or me an email.
