I’m wondering if there would be any interest on here regarding starting a “Ban State AR Section” under the AR portion of the forums?
I have noticed in several threads in the AR General Discussion area that are either focused on Ban State issues, or in which Ban State issues aren’t easily discussed due to the extreme difference in our ability to simply tinker with and understand our carbines. Certain products and mods within the AR world seem to only appeal to those of us in ban states, and it would be nice to have a place where those of us that unfortunately live in these states could all get together and discuss various issues, products and differences with our rifles that are specific to our situations.
What are everyone’s thoughts regarding this?
I think it could potentially add a new level of depth to the forums, and would be easily moderated.
Yea I think it would be critical to have it be Technical, and also really important to have an introduction thread so that people can see what states we are all from. The differences in state laws could be a simple locked sticky thread with the title: Each State’s Laws Very, It Is Your Responsibility To Know Your States Laws. The title would then be repeated as the text of the thread, and leave it at that.
I would love to have a place though were we could compare builds, talk about options, and discuss our issues.
A number of the ban states (like mine) just kept the federal assault weapons ban…almost word for word.
In NY it boils down to a fixed stock, no bayo lug and a crowned barrel or a pinned comp (no flash hiders allowed). Oh and no SBR’s allowed…16" or longer.
I’m not so sure we need our own Section. Maybe a Sticky in the Tec Section and the “New” shooter section, call it “So you live in a AWB state”. The greatest chalange I find personaly is locking in your spec and getting what you want vs’ what you think you want. Outside our ban state limitations it’s much easier to say hey I’m going to swap this for that ect and try things out. Vs. here in NY you have to start with having your brake removed and the stock unpined.
I’m about to by N6, but not sure if I want to go through some of the hoops needed to do what I want.
It might take me a couple of days to fit it in, but I can sketch out some comments for a sticky, but some of the better tech minds may be better choices. Here in the tundra there are nor shops that stock AR’s or parts, so it’s all done online:mad:
