Has anyone tried or been using this handguard?
Not sure what the purpose would be other than to add dead weight to the gun.

have one on my bench/bull barrel gun. It is heavy. I’ll get some pics this week.

I have a carbine and a rifle version. They are heavy as hell, but they also work as advertised- they provide a wide, flat surface to rest on a bag, bench, or cover. Horrible piece of gear for a defensive carbine, but I think they are great for a precision rig if weight is not a major concern.
I have one on my long-range rifle. It’s heavy as hell and works just as advertised. I wouldn’t want to use it on a tactical rifle (I wouldn’t want to use my 18" bull barrel on a tactical rifle either for that matter 
)
Because it’s not for “nothing.” It’s for lasers, irons, lights, clip-on supplementary optics that go in front of primary optics…
First thing I thought when I saw it was “…wouldn’t wanna stand with that…,” followed closely by “…but that’s not a bad idea for a bench/prone gun.” Extra weight helps, in that idiom, and if you want/need to mount other stuff because you’re not humping it all over hell’s half-acre, you have what you need to do it.
Narrow application, sure, but hardly “nothing.”
I have yet to see anyone using their bench gun at the range equipped with white lights, lasers, secondary optics, etc. I also noticed the folks who posted pics with them had none of the above mounted. which makes since to me, bench guns do not usually get hooked up with patrol/entry aids such as lasers, red dots, white lights, thermals, NOD’s, etc. Maybe Im crazy and stuck in a box. But I do understand the square bottom for the bench and the added weight for a reduce in recoil, etc.
I take this as the literal truth; YOU have yet to see it. I have yet to see it so far this month. I may make up for that lack in the 3rd week of this month, when I’ll be spending some time at a certain training ground adjacent to the Salton Sea with gentlemen of a particular skillset.
Perhaps the day will pass when you will see somebody shooting prone or off a bench, or off a rock, or off the hood of a HMMWV with an hi-mag scope, a PVS-22 (or similar), and PEQ-18 (or similar) all hanging off their gun. I have no idea one way or another. If you have no idea why a shooter would do what I just stated, it doesn’t make me full of shit, it just means that you haven’t seen everything there is to see and yet think that what you have seen defines what’s out there.
Maybe don’t vapor-lock on individual words, and start thinking of capabilities.
At some point in time my bench gun will sport a light but that’s only because all of my rifles end up with lights at some point…
Besides, how many guys run lights on their varmint guns to spot coyotes and jack rabbits and other nuisance animals? Plenty.
Lol, I will keep my eyes open for the guy with the bench gun and laser, white light, etc, lol. I like all your input guys as for spotlighting I forgot about that. I live behind enemy lines in ca and we can’t spotlight here. Sultan sea shooting huh if you ever want to go pull a trigger let me know. I live in palm springs and enjoy a little trigger session. Think along the lines of guys who are in the business of taking precise shots at targets that can shoot back. Not everyone who uses an AR for serious business in the military, hauling 80 pounds of gear around the desert, so the weight isn’t a giant issue for some.
Yeah your right, my limited point of view operating within the military is always making me think less weight. I can not save weight on some items such as com gear, camera with size stupid lens, tri-pod, M40 A3/A5, maybe a SASR sometimes, and water to last several days. So my personal gear is usually along those same lines (trying to buy the same gear I would want to operate with, simple, strong, light). So maybe for a cop that would not be a bad rig. But if I wanted a precision rifle the AR would not be my choice, I am in favor of bolt guns for that. But if you did not need to take long shots than I guess the AR would be fine.
Have had the opportunity to shoot with several cops over the last five years, one of those was a sniper team from the southern ca area. They came out to the Pendleton school house and spent a week shooting with us. Wow I was really surprised how much high speed gear they had and the cavalier attitude. But more importantly how poorly they employed there rifles, they could not shoot beyond a couple hundred yards. They told me they never had to shoot past 200, crazy but understandable. Such a big difference between military and civilian in that regard at least. But there room entry tactics were awesome, really more of there bread and butter I guess. Odd for a sniper team imo but I guess that goes to show you how many people they actually shoot as police snipers.
Also have a buddy in a so cal P.D. that is a reserve marine sniper, he was my partner going through the basic course. He’s just a patrol cop but man he prior service and can shoot all day long out to 1,000 yds. To bad he’s not a police sniper, lol funny how that works.
