A little history on the BAD-CASS…

We developed the BAD-CASS-3P, M16 for a major firearms manufacturer that intended to use it on their improved carbine trials. In 4 months, 8 M16s with these selectors installed had over 100K rounds fired, the selectors never failed, and the screws never backed out. The BAD-CASS features a dovetailed interface for lever attachment, this allows us to put the auto sear cut on the left side of the selector axis. The dovetail interface also serves to remove load and stress on the screws, as the dovetail is primarily responsible in keeping the levers attached. Thus, in the event of the screws backing out (more on that later), the loss of the mounting screw doesn’t render the selector useless, as the dovetail interface allows the levers to stay on the selector axis.

So this begs the question, is it necessary?

Due to the use of high quality, Grade 8 screws with Torx heads, screws backing out on any of our selectors is very rare. As with most firearms accessories that use screws, a little drop of thread locker is recommended. We’ve had folks that purposely leave the screws without thread locker, and have been shooting the heck out of their rifles with our selectors installed, without ever having the screws back out.

I’m perfectly confident with the BAD-ASS family of selectors if I am going in harm’s way. Judging by its increased use and popularity on LE weapons, I’m definitely not alone.

The BAD-CASS as designed, was never intended for semi auto, even though it works in that role very well. It is more expensive to manufacture, the dovetail interface requires a great deal of checking and tighter tolerances

The BAD-CASS does look pretty, though we never intended for it to look good. As a policy, we spend most of our time on functionality and robustness, aesthetics are usually afterthoughts.

It is. I just got a BAD-CASS short throw 45° in the mail today and installed it. Its awesome. I would recommend it UNCONDITIONALLY. This will be used on all my future builds.

Hopefully the other version will work, we’ll find out soon, as it’s never been done before (to my knowledge).

The one that will go in production first has more civilian and LE application :wink:

Will there a design made without the lawyer pin? I dont want to void your warranty even though I have my own lawyer. It would be nice and I bet if there was a redesign it would sell like hot cakes. :smile:

yes please, no lawyer pin…i went with a sts becaue of that now i regret it

include arc stickers or stencils so users can paint a “fire” arc for the selector to point to

New production short throw selectors will be 50 degrees for reasons discussed elsewhere and earlier, the BAD-CASS-ST and BAD-ASS-ST will both sport the 50 degree throw. Visually and in the shooter’s hands, the 5 degree is about impossible to discern, but it does do exactly what we wanted it to do, that is to give a slightly longer throw to accommodate the slight but inevitable wiggle when the detent is engaged in either FIRE or SAFE, and fix the incompatibility issue with two Wilson Combat TTU triggers (only the Wilson Combat TR TTU and MIL TTU have consistent issues, mainly due to their rather radical departure from factory specs)

At 50 degrees, the pointer of the selector still doesn’t point close to the FIRE / SEMI engraving.

The lawyer pin can be removed, we put it there to visibly demonstrate our intention that it be used with receivers with properly placed FIRE / SEMI engravings. The removal of which that voids the warranty demonstrates the pin wasn’t put there for cosmetic reasons and we would enforce our policy to the extent we can exercise it. Once a customer purchases the product, it is no longer our property, he may choose to do what he sees fit.

For one of the two short throw M16 selectors, it will also have feature the 50 degree throw. The other one that we’re still playing with and testing, it’ll be 45 degree still.

We did look at all the options before deciding on the pin. Anything that requires a user to perform won’t hold up in court, as we have no power to enforce the installation of stickers.

It was also discussed that the ST centers be made in different diameters so it’d be impossible to use on non-45 degree compatible receivers :eek:

FWIW, I’m running the Geissele SSF on my RR M16.

All Geissele triggers work flawlessly with all of our selectors :slight_smile:

The different diameter business was quickly tossed aside, it wasn’t our idea anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow that’s customer service right there. Can I get in on this? Unlike most Noveske and Magpul products, their sts has been pretty under whelming. I’d trade in both my sts levers for a single cass-sa-st!
