Check your credit cards!

I just got a call from my bank about suspicious charges on my credit card and sure enough there was some weird website making charges. Now I know it could have come from anywhere but I haven’t used that card forever and the last place I used it was Brownells and Bravo Company. Either one of them has a security problem or someone got lucky. Just remember to keep an eye on that stuff.

Or your credit card company has a thief working for them.

My bank sent us all new check cards without warning about a month ago saying someone’s 3rd part blah blah security was compromised.

Who was the company making charges on your Credit Card?

My wife had a company called Monrovia something or another, making charges on her card. They would charge $11.00 a month. Their call back number came back to a different company in Virginia, and they had a bogus address in Florida.

We believe her card information was stolen when ranger Joe’s site got hacked a few years ago.

We had to fight the credit card company twice to remove the charges and add this company to their watch list. After the first time, the bogus company sent a form letter to the credit card company claiming they were providing us with some sort of web browser service. The letter was not signed and the call back number was a dead end. We finally got the problem solved and the Attorney generals Office was notified. Not that they can do much about it.

While doing a Google search of the comapny, all we could find was discussion groups talking about the scam.

Same thing here.

This likely has nothing to do with either Brownells or Bravo Company directly. It’s quite likely that the company that handles their credit authorizations sends them through Heartland.

Google “Heartland credit card breach” and see what you find.

They lost over 100 MILLION credit card numbers. It’s the largest known breach in history.

I have a “dedicated” credit card I use for online shopping. And NEVER use your debit card for online activities.

 Holy Smokes!

That explains the small transactions on my wife’s card. What is 100 Million times $11.00? (that’s a rhetorical question)

I also only use one credit card for online transactions. It has a relatively low limit on it. Plus I check it constantly. My CC customer service tends to be very good. Even though they jacked up my interest rate here recently.

it only takes a second for a waiter to skim your card…my wife and i never let our cards leave our sight and pay with cash when we go out.

Someone bought Viagra from Brazil and a Porn site subscription a few years ago. Now that is looking for something to do.

Indeed. I use my ATM card only at ATM machines located inside the lobby of my bank. Not very handy, but safer.

I carry cash, and pay cash for just about everything. The scary thing is that it may be safer now, than toting a pocket full of credit cards.

I do IT computer security geekery for a living. A co-worker makes his living doing pen-testing on banks and other large Fortune 100 customers. He does his banking with one particular bank. As he described them “They are a security company that loans money.”

Deleted.

I had a similar event occur about three months ago, but mine was an AMEX.

They charged some “male enhancement” pills. My wife laughed her ass off. :o

I just went round and round with with my bank for declining a large out of state purchase on my debit card that I was trying to make.

I called my bank and was informed there has been a huge rash of fraudulent charges in CA, LA, and a third state I cannot remember. My bank is blocking any charge over $200 to those states.

I was glad that they are taking steps to protect my money, but originally they would not release the funds once I confirmed it was a legit charge. Finally they released the funds and I have a new optic coming.

I ordered a mobile ham radio last Saturday using my credit card and literally within 4 minutes of placing the order Bank of America called to report a large purchase being made with my card.
I hadn’t even printed out my copy of the order invoice yet.
Shit hot on top of it.
