Avatar policy w/ industry logos

Just wondering what the policy is with avatars regarding industry logos, I realize there are a lot of enthusiasts and fans, but in this forum where there is a good deal of industry activity, it can be annoying/confusing when you have both fans and industry members with the same logos. It is a little confusing in the fact that the use of logos grants a bit of assumed credibility (unless you go ahead and ask each person what there background is in each thread, which can come off offensive and side-tracking).

So is there any policy regarding logos as avatars, or should there be?

Those who have legit industry ties are expected to state as much in their signatures…so if you see someone who has, say, a TigerSwan logo for their avatar but they don’t state who they are or make any notion of ties to Tiger Swan in their signature, assume they are just a fan and not speaking on behalf of Tiger Swan.

Like JW777 said, there are a lot of fans that simply support companies. If you are looking to see if someone is actually with a company, check and see if they are a member, or actually a manufacturer.

Personally, I worry more about avatars that aren’t work friendly. When I’m sitting in a cruiser and a recruit is writing a report, I don’t want to have to worry about something unprofessional popping up on the screen.

I appreciate the help, but that won’t work in this case. There are a bunch of us who surf the board, but won’t log in or post from a GOV computer.

Any ideas how to do that without a user profile?

You could use AdBlock Plus (if allowed on your .gov computers) and right click and block each one as you see it. Obviously not the optimal option though.

Thanks for the idea, but that is also a no go. Nothing is able to be installed on them. The admin sits in a dark tower with his cloak and wand and laughs at us.

I am often in that boat when on my work gov computer (when i am on a network that doesnt block M4C).

I would be completely ok if Avatars were only visible when logged in.
