“I oppose Kentucky HB 299 because it’s redundant and because of what it could become.
Machine gun conversion devices are already heavily restricted under the National Firearms Act (NFA). Passing another state felony on top of existing federal law doesn’t fix anything today, it just duplicates what’s already on the books.
But here’s the bigger issue: if the NFA were ever repealed or changed, HB 299 would turn into a stand alone Kentucky ban. That means if machine guns become legal federally, it would still be illegal in Kentucky.
