Attaching Bipod to Rail Idea

So I’m down in the basement tonight, playing around with how to mount a Harris Bipod to the underside of a Samson 12" rail. I know they make rail adapters that attach to the rail and have a swivel stud sticking out that the Bipod attaches to, but they add another inch or so of height/Distance from the underside of the rail to the Base of the bipod.

My goal is to use a small 6-9" IA2 bipod and mount it so it is as close to the rail and as streamlined as possible.

Then I notice the threaded holes in the rail between the rails and the wheels start spinning. Why could I not just drill some holes in the base plate of the Harris Bipod and find the right size screws that fit the threaded holes and eliminate the swivel stud attachment mechanism from the bipod.

Or better yet, does someone make just a plain old swivel stud that would just screw into one of these threaded holes.

And who knows the size of the screw that fits these holes…?

on my LaRue 12.0 rail, which has the through holes along the rails (not the threaded ones), i installed a sling stud right to the rail. used a nut on the other side. then i attached the harris directly to the stud, so there’s no adapter. granted, you can’t slide anything on and off the rail unless you remove the stud, but i didn’t have anything back there anyways as it’s on a 20" upper. you can’t mount a harris any closer to the rail than that, plus no alteration is needed and it installs and removes with a coin.

I should have know I was not the first “genius” to come up with that idea…Great minds think alike
