ATI/xtreme machining AK-47 milled.

I just bought this thing from a friend for 400 bucks. All I knew about AK’s is that the milled one tend to command a little higher price. I had no idea what I was buying. It was put together with screws and a Bulgarian parts kit was used. Even the rear trunnion, which I now know was not the correct way to built an AK. The gun has around 400 rounds thru it without a hiccup. So far no problem. I pulled out the screws and put some JB Weld on the threads and reused them. The fit and finish look good. My question is…is there anything I should do/check out on this thing? The thing appears to be a mutt, however to someone who knows nothing about AK’s looks like a well put together gun. Please be gentle, I was helping a friend and only know enough to get into trouble.Thanks.

Milled guns don’t have trunnions.

Please post pics.

Also, screw builds, even with JB weld, are asking for serious trouble.

Thats kinda what I thought. I know now that milled guns should not have a rear trunnion. This one however does. I’ll have to see what I can do about the pics. Looking online at people who own them seem to like them, however that doesnt make it right.

This is it.

Post more pics. From what I’ve read only the rear trunion is screwed in to facilitate easier cleaning.

What the hell?

This POS will be another persons problem. Im selling it. Not even going to deal with it. If anything good has come about because of this, its that I have learned some about AK’s. I still have alot to learn yet, but its a start.

Screwed in rear trunnion, serious mark of quality there.

Good choice on selling the ATI abomination.

Here is a little info on these rifles.

They are built with Soviet AKM parts that came via Bulgaria. The barrels are not original, they are US made. I cant tell you why they decided to make these on a “milled receiver”, maybe they thought they could market it better because everyone thinks “milled” are better and more desirable? They also had the genius idea of using the original rear trunnion which would be held in the receiver with hex screws.

Here are some pics of the complete rifle for those interested in what is being discussed.

The new updated version ATI is making is on a stamped receiver which is more proper for this type of AK.

That’s just stupiest looking crap I’ve seen. Why did they bother with screwed in rear trunnion? And no lightening cut on the receiver? It’s quite an abomination.

They are $900 damn dollars?

For a used parts gun with a US barrel, surplus furniture, and an poor excuse for a milled receiver?

I’d rather buy 2 Wasr’s.

Whats the big deal about not having a lightening cut? Not arguing, just curious.

Well, if they’re going to try to use a milled receiver, then should at least do lightening cut. This lightens the receiver, and also at least make it look like a half-assed milled AK. Otherwise, this just becomes a brick AK. It’s pretty crazy they didn’t go for a stamped receiver which should be a cheaper build.

Those guns are total ass. Screwed in trunnion and side-rail and and and

A dealer tried to tell me the parts we, ‘screwed on so you could take them off for cleaning and…’

Pass dude, just pass.

I bought it from a friend who needed the money for $400. I turned right around and traded it for a hand picked WASR. Checked for canted sight and mag fit and took it home. Have 200 problem free rounds with no problem. So far, so good. I turned lemons into lemonade!:dance3:
