The ATF is going after M855
Reading between the lines, they are also showing that they are going after the AR15 pistol. The more ways they use enforcment interpretations (or whatever you want to call it) to limit their use or reduce their appeal, the more they show their distain for the platform’s ability to get around stupid NFA regulations.
Congress still holds the key, however. Just like with the shotgun importation/sporting use survey from a few years ago, Congress can completely defund anything the ATF does, stopping them in their tracks.

Typical. Rewrite laws to “feel good”, “get tough on crime”, and other empty nothings.
Somehow “getting 855 off the street” really doesn’t DO anything.
It won’t make anyone ‘safer’ and it doesn’t make most modern 77gr 5.56 less devastating. And gee…it doesn’t make 30-06 less armor piercing by nature.
More “rulings” by unqualified and uncaring drones to pander to modern suburbia. Meanwhile, back at the ranch…there are actually real problems that affect most people that deserve attention but…it doesn’t matter what I say or how I feel. They’re going to do what they are going to do and nobody cares what I think, or feel but my taxes better get paid on time.
And that is all that matters to the bureaucrats, and politicians.
