This can’t be normal procedure. Sure there are some that STILL think their gov. Has their best interests at heart.

They came to my buddies gunshop 9 years ago a couple months before he closed, and scanned ALL 24 years worth of 4473s. He told they he would be closing and they would be getting them all anyway, they didn’t care. This was the only “compliance check” he ever had.
Not supposed to do that. There are allowed to make a few copies of 4473s as documentation of compliance or non compliance. They are allowed to examine bound books but I don’t think they are allowed to copy or photograph them unless they are documenting a problem.
When he gave notice of closure, they technically became the responsibility of ATF anyway.
Not like the time a bunch of agents in a big box store tried to download ALL the digital records around 10 years ago onto a laptop during a “compliance inspection.”
That’s probably why she was angry they didn’t use a computer. That way she would just copy to a thumb drive.
Mistakes can happen, but thus won’t be fixed, it’s intentional.

Additionally, you think it will be better with Teump or DeSantis, or ANY GOP? Nope, the entire gov is infiltrated with communists. Make an order to take down a BLM, or Transgender flag from a battleship… they will be like, oh I forgot… yeah I’ll get it done, etc… we have all worked with those type of people that get nothing done. The gov would just stop doing anything.
That’s why I’m old school, paper and nothing else.
Also the way A&D books are set up, you do not have to put all of the persons info. If I transfer a gun out to a FFL, I put his name or business name and his FFL number. But if I transfer out to an individual I put only the persons name and then the number of the corresponding 4473 and nothing else.
You can copy my A&D book all day long, but unless you have the 4473s as well it will get you nothing. And it’s also the fastest record system I can have. When ATF calls to do a trace, I never have to call them back. Takes me about 60 seconds to find the firearm in my A&D book and even less time to then find the numbered 4473 associated with it. That is unless it actually went onto another FFL and then I just provide that FFL number.
Why anyone would want to do online 4473s or any kind of digital / scanned record keeping is beyond me. If you’re not Sports Authority or otherwise doing thousands of 4473s a year, it’s just more work. Also if you have only digital records and your computer crashes, that’s a lot of paperwork with ATF.
