I have wanted a quality AK for some time now. I found an Arsenal milled AK that I want to buy. Could some of you guru’s take a look at it and tell me if you smell anything bad? I would really appreciate it. It’s over at ar15.com. Thanks, Davy
I’m no guru but it looks like an Arsenal SLR 95 that had its thumbhole stock removed. I have one and absolutely love it. I have other AK’s but the SLR is my favorite. It’s accurate, its trigger feels great, and it cycles smoothly. It’s a post ban gun so the muzzle break is pinned on and it dosen’t have a bayonet lug, but so what who really needs one. You won’t regret it if you buy an Arsenal AK, $850 sounds like the going rate. I looked around and bought mine last year for $650 but that was a deal.
Ask him how the lower tang is installed in the receiver.
If that’s an Arsenal Inc. SLR-101, they came in the country as a single stack receiver and were then milled out to accept standard magazines, and the lower tang should have been installed by Arsenal correctly.
If that’s an Arsenal Bulgaria SLR-95, it was converted by someone else. The receivers were machined in Bulgaria to accept standard magazines.
Ask for some pictures of the left side of the receiver, so you can see what the hell it actually is.
Someone grabbed it before he received my email that I would take it, Dang it! I really want a milled Arsenal, sheesh.
How many shekels are you willing to part with?
Well, I haveth around $800 Obama notes available at this time. Seems as that is a slender purse for what I want.

I’m desperately surfing. Whatcha got Templer?
You’re going to really want to try to budget at least $1500 for one right now, or look for an unconverted ban model SLR-95.
I know you posted it as a joke, but you realize that the SGL series is stamped, right?
Yeah, I just saw it and thought I would post it up. Do you know anyone who has a nice one for sale?
The guy that had the Arsenal mistakenly thought I was someone else when he told me it was sold. He meant he had sold it to me so I’m back in business. I’m going to get a pic of the other side and have him give me what is written on both sides. Templer give me your honest opinion on this gun. I don’t want to make another mistake…don’t ask, lol.
Without seeing pics of the markings so I know exactly what model we’re dealing with, can’t really comment any more than I already have.
He just told me that it’s a SLR-101 and is going to send me some pic’s.
I’m looking at an Arsenal SLR-101 for $800. Does that seem like a good buy? Thanks.
I guess it was too much to hope for to get full size pics of the receiver markings…
$800 is a good deal in todays market.
He’s going to get them for me tonight and will post them up shortly.
I have an SLR-101, same basic gun as that (mine came with green poly furniture). Bought it new around 2000 or 2001, something like that. Mine came from Arsenal accepting double stack military mags, also has the same fishgill break as the one in your pic. It would probably break your heart if I told you how little I paid, so I won’t. But I will tell you that they are an excellent gun, mine seems to be my most accurate AK in 7.62x39. That might be associated with the permanently attached break, I’m not really sure. I think $800 is a fair price in today’s market if the gun is in good shape.
Not having the bayo lug and a fixed suppressor is fine with me. What I’m looking for is a quality AK, milled and actually has a well placed front sight. (every AK I’ve owned seems to have a canted front sight). From what I’ve seen, most AK’s that are milled are over $1000++ (excluding single mag stack models). Regarding yesterday’s market, I have a crap load of silver I bought at $16 an ounce. Now it almost $47 and still rising. I don’t think we haven’t seen what inflation is yet. I’m more than happy to pay $800 for a quality AK.
Here is the pic the owner sent, prepare your eyes to hurt as it’s out of focus
Yes, excellent price for an SLR-101 in today’s market.
Bear in mind it may have a tight mag well…some took Bulgarian ((10)) waffle pattern polymer mags just fine, some were a little too tight.
I would assume that this is something that would be an easy fix? File?
Beautiful furniture on that rifle. Sure would look nice with pre-ban hardware on the barrel along with a cleaning rod.

Where could I find a bayonet lug to put on it?
