Armslist Is Dead To Me

Well, apparently Armslist has turned into a subscription service like everything else.

A few weeks ago I went to list some stuff, and first had some listings randomly disappear without being flagged, just posted, got confirmation email, then gone by the next day. Tried to use the contact form on the site, but hilariously you need a listing URL to do so… which you can’t have if your listing has poofed. Brilliant feature.

Then after a few re-tries over the next week, they worked, only for me to find out that Armslist had gone from the previous 10 (IIRC) listings for a free account, to 3. Guess they had to make the premium accounts feel special somehow. Cute.
Whatever, I only have a few things for sale, so I rolled with it. No big deal.
They never sent an email or other notification that they were doing this.

Then today I go on there, and when I log into my account, a notification box pops up and tells me I need to “sign up for a premium account to access these features”. Um…what?
So I think, maybe the page has just done something f**ky like the internet does sometimes. I close it and start again with a new page… same result.
I log in, it pop-ups me with the Premium account notification, and when I click it closed, I am in my account page, but the listings are gone.
I mean, the WHOLE tab on the side that said “my listings” is gone.
I can’t even access the listings I already had up to edit, bump, or delete.
Once again, there was no notification sent out that this was going to be implemented, just an out-of the blue ‘surprise’.

Ironically, the listings I had are still up and active, and still searchable, just on like, page 40, so I guess without a ‘premium’ nothingburger account, they’ll never see the light of day again.
As I am not a retailer, and Armslist doesn’t offer any above-and-beyond services worth bothering with, and as I don’t sell either enough items, or fast enough on that site to be worth it, they’re not getting a dime from me. F*** em.
Way to handle the sites ‘growth’ guys. Guess they had to cash in on the election/'rona panic somehow. Geez…

Interesting. I have something on Armslist currently and haven’t had any issues.

Disregard my prior post, I just logged on and no longer have access to my own listing without joining.

Same problem here this AM. Over the last week or two, a lot of scammers showed up. People would respond to my ad from other states, but the way they were worded smelled scam, and a few other items. There are a lot of ads on Armslist to pay for it, so I guess it’s to cut down on those characters. Won’t accomplish much as I suspect the five or so I got in the past week are no more than two people with various addresses from the same domain (which I know is based overseas). So, pay for, say, 4 addresses @ $24 a month, and scam a few hundred with the basic take the money and send nothing scam. Not a bad ROI.

I received this email from them earlier today:

Dear Armslist User,

I hope all is well.

You may be finding yourself having some difficulty navigating the site. We thank you for your patience as we upgrade our infrastructure in an effort to reduce scams, and improve the overall user experience. As you may know, we are facing yet another lawsuit from the anti-gunners at Brady United. In an effort to offset the mounting legal costs, we have created a new paid account type: The Premium Personal Program. While it’s still in it’s early stages, our roadmap for the program includes some exciting new characteristics for our users including exclusive discounts, exclusive deals, and a plethora of new site and account features in the months to come. If you’d like to give it a try, click here.

Thank you again for your continued patience and support as we experience these growing pains. We hope to offer a vastly improved experience soon.

Best,

J. Gibbon

I have noticed this as well. Quite a few MP5 clones (PTR 9CT’s) for $900 or a kitted out Noveske for $1150. Usually if I list something I get the typical ’ will you drive 5+ hours north and take $200 less’… but I’m sure that the scammers + legal issues are forcing them to re-evaluate what they are doing. Craigslist has gone away due to facebook market place because they can handle security and profiles better.

Oh boy more botnet bullshit where people want you to pay for something and be eternally spammed.

Lol HARD pass.

Is this somehow a by-product of the latest gun frenzy?

I have never even thought about buying or selling anything on A-list.

More scams and BS than I’ve ever seen.

I’ve used Armslist a few times over the years. Never had a problem and never been scammed.

With that being said, I got the same messages today and had the same experience with my account.

Too bad, because I had some great buys on there.

This is where I stand.

Ironically I have recently been having better luck on Armslist than Tacswap.

Per the lawsuit email;
Sure I get that, but it really miffs me that they lock the site down, without ANY warning and then they want to roll out that email after the fact like that. That’s just shit business. Kinda feels like they’re trying to ambush me into fundraising for them by holding everyone’s accounts hostage. ‘Pay up or you won’t get access (to things already listed, mind you). Cough up now, it’s for the greater good you see…’
Come on, do better.

I’ve never been scammed, but most of the scams I see are usually on A-list. There was a period of about 10 years when guys on HKpro were constantly busting out frauds who were selling guns using pics of stuff they got from other auctions.

I’ve never been scammed on A-list but the past two transactions I got shorted rounds. It’s annoying the hillbillies couldn’t count but it looked like they needed the money more than I.

Yep. It’s been dead to me from its inception.
